ah thanks I probably have it somewhere but it's unusable on modern machines. having a panpot would be nice but you can achieve that with a few vcas. I feel like there is a v1.5 somewhere that adds a few of these features and v2 with polyphony (which can be achieved either with a poly module that just routes cv or a more complex system that allows a group of module to work as a template for multiple instances). would also be cool to be able to import and copy paste groups of modules into an existing rack.

That screenshot is Tassman 4 running on Windows 11 on a computer that's a couple years old.
I don't know if it runs on Macs though.

About the versions - I assume you're talking about Multiphonics.

I think Multiphonics is by far the most usable VST modular. I have also Voltage and Cardinal but Multiphonics UI has the best usability and lightest CPU usage - if what it can do is enough for you.
Voltage Modular CPU usage is ridiculously high if you use polyphony. Cardinal has too many modules and gets confusing easily. On the other hand, it is free.
So I hope AAS will bring one day a poly version of Multiphonics.

The 3rd party modules for VM and VCV are just too good to compare, tbh. The MRB and Vult and Weevil modules are astoundingly good.

I do like CV-1’s GUI better than VM’s, though. It has a consistency that you don’t get with 3rd party stuff.

If they managed to port the physical modeling stuff from tassman in and add polyphony and external audio processing that would be incredible. Also, I’d love some more CV utility modules.

Thanks for the reminder. I had to re-install it but it's up and running. Sounds nice. Lacking in the low end, but some really nice presets. Now it reminds me of a cross between Chromaphone and Ultra Analog, which I guess makes sense. They were definitely onto something with the modular approach. Seems like they might have coded themselves into a corner and decided to, perhaps, abandon Tassman and bring the tech into their other products - or, Tassman was essenetially a modular mix of Chroma and UA... which, coming full circle, is basically what CV-1 is... so is CV-1 the updated Tassman?? Did I miss something... ?

I'm not sue that they knew what to do with the code. Instead of updating it to 64-bit, they wrote their own 32->64-bit wrapper. Really a tragedy since it couldn't get past Mojave...

True. They often label them "beans" and what they actually sell are either pods or the fine little "seeds" from them.

I'm always more impressed by the price of saffron. Which I love far more than vanilla and even chocolate!
Not sure where that fits as a metaphor here though...

I think it's region as well. This last year we've been getting Mexican Saffron, which is pretty cheap and still as cheap as their Safflower petals (poor man's saffron). Does everything the Spanish Saffron does at 1/80th the price. But the true Spanish region variety still has a stronger flavor that's unmistakable.
And maybe therein lays the metaphor?

Seafood Paella and Bouillabaisse.
In our area where Mexican restaurants are literally everywhere, and trying to explain to others how different Spanish food is, we're forced to always make our own. And we've gathered many recipes in trying to capture a version we had from a Spanish family restaurant in Glasgow, Scotland. We've also made French and Italian versions. We've even made one from a S.American country that uses Achiote instead.

Modulars seem to be like that, with different qualities of the same ingredient or if you get shipped a "kit with a premade packet". Some things are just not available without going down the rabbit hole of cost and quality.

I actually like everything from AAS and it's definitely in my top list of companies and developers.
Though this is the one I take a wait and see attitude on, I'm definitely trying to keep a watch on its development/evolution.
