Hey - the MRecorder is great but I'm looking for a tool to do the same for MIDI. I guess as MIDI is event based it is not as easy to implement in the Mrecorder soon. Or is this plannend? Are there any PlugIns out there for recording/exporting MIDI with similar functionality like the MRecorder?
Thx Tobi

That's what a sequencer or DAW is for.

Cubase has such a function built in.

Well the goal is to record a full live performance with multiple stops, tempo changes etc. - so no just recording it in the DAW wouldn't work - thats what MRecorder is great for and I m looking for the same functionality for MIDI.

What you are describing is exactly what a DAW is, and is meant for. Unless I'm missing something?AbletonDrummer wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 6:04 pm Well the goal is to record a full live performance with multiple stops, tempo changes etc. - so no just recording it in the DAW wouldn't work - thats what MRecorder is great for and I m looking for the same functionality for MIDI.

Ok it looks like this is not clear what I m looking for and so far it is not understood what the Mrecorder's functionality is nin my use case: Imagine you are playing a gig with e.g. 10 songs/1h running a DAW for backing tracks, automated changes for sounds and some more controls. You have stops where you talk to the audience, you might have some parts you perform music but the DAW isn't 'playing' e.g. an intro where you play some chords and sing to tease into the song but you haven't started the backings you are using yet. After the gig you want to be able to mix everything (+maybe do some cleaning e.g. some wrong notes -> editing MIDI) and release video content of that gig.
So ideally you record every individual (audio) track seperate OF THAT FULL 1h performance from the start to the end - one file/one rec for each track. Then you line that all up (+ the video rec) and you can jump to minute X of your performance.
It is actually the same like you would rec every track seperate from the FOH.
So for audio this is working great with the Mrecorder but I want to be able to have the same 1h rec of (some) MIDI tracks. Currently its done via recording the MIDI on a second computer and lining things up after BUT it would be great to have something like the Mrecorder for MIDI to have this all done in one workflow.
Thx.

That's what pause in the DAW is for.
I think you're making it more difficult than it needs to be.
Also you don't have to line anything up, the DAW will hold everything where it needs to be, both midi and audio. And doing it with 2 machines just makes it more challenging not to mention latency.

Sorry Dirk much appreciated BUT the DAW is where the Audio and automations are coming from - it is actually used to play backings, automations for settings etc. IF this is not playing (=paused) it is actually NOT recording. Please think of it as a recording on the FOH console where you want to have ALL tracks recorded seperately.

Try Mulab 9,
This is a full modular DAW that can also be a VST plugin with independent tempo and transport (or sync'd if you'd prefer).
It also has MIDI and audio clips.

This is really confusing my brain, but if everything is in the DAW to being with, what are you expecting to record, and what't the benefit of this? Audio sure, but MIDI, this makes absolutely no sense to me and feels enormously over complicated. Apologies if this is sounding aggressive in some way, it's not intended, I'm just utterly bamboozled.AbletonDrummer wrote: Wed Jan 18, 2023 2:36 pm Sorry Dirk much appreciated BUT the DAW is where the Audio and automations are coming from - it is actually used to play backings, automations for settings etc. IF this is not playing (=paused) it is actually NOT recording. Hey Dirk - this really got you, ha great. Thx for your interest to understand. So lets strip this to this example: You have one performer who is singing and playing MIDI keys. He is playing 3 songs each roughly 3 minutes but the full performance will be 15 minutes in total. Between the songs he is talking to the audience, is doing some improf, is playing some intros to the songs etc. For the 3 songs he has to hit play for each in the DAW (Ableton Live btw but unfortunately in the Arrangement View and NOT Session View) as he has some backing tracks, some automations on sound changes for the keys, some auto-tune automations (and lots more) happening from Ableton Live. He might change spontanious parts order e.g. repeating the last chorus once more than it 'printed' in the arrangement. To be able to edit the LIVE audio (-> his voice + keys) afterwards to the video rec of his performance you need to have the 'talking' to the audience, improf etc. so all he 15 min of performance as seperate tracks. IF there were some mistakes (e.g. wrong notes played) you want to go in the MIDI rec and change this (and after run this through the VSTs obbiously). I hope this makes more sense now. For the part of Rec of MIDI (the full 15min) I m looking for a solution to get this done like you can do this with the MRecorder for audio.

So then if you don't hit the pause it will record all midi data along with all audio.
All lined up and doing what it needs to, no?
Sorry just trying to be helpful.
Maybe you just need to record audio and midi from another machine then since Ableton sounds like your live improv capable control center or the song/tracks player.
Actually it might be worth looking at Gigperformer, I'm pretty sure the latest version can record both audio and midi like that.

I still don't get why you can't leave the DAW recording the whole time, and use the mute and solo buttons as needed.
But I don't do this type of stuff, so you don't have to re-explain. I figured there's a small chance that mute & solo could work.

Hey sirmonkey + Dirk thx for your suggestions BUT as Dirk mentioned Ableton in this use case IS the "song/track player" which will be used 'dynamic' (stopped/paused etc.) AND the whole approach here is to try to NOT have to use a 2nd computer/recording hardware. Again: for audio this all can be done via MRecorder pretty smooth and stable. I m looling for a tool/VST to do the same for MIDI. Cheers
