You'll also have to download the source code from the Lore Magnetik Github page:

https://github.com/micah-frank-studio/Lore/tree/main/

You hit the Green code button then the "Download ZIP" button which will download a LoreMain.Zip file to your machine. Then extract from that ZIP file to store the code somewhere on your machine.

As mentioned you also have to download and install the Cabbage "framework" from here: https://cabbageaudio.com/. That's as far as I've gotten. I haven't yet figured out how to direct Cabbage to compile the Lore Magnetik source code.

As Cabbage isn‘t yet M1 ready, I wonder if the compiled versions would still run in Rosetta. Other Puremagnetic plugins do work here. I think they are all based on Cabbage/CSound…

For Windows:
  • Unzip Lore-main
  • Open cabbage
  • Using File>Load Csound file open lore.csd inside Lore-main/Lore Experimental Sound Console
  • Using the choices under File>Export Plugin>, export the plugin type you want with whatever name you want to give it. Put it outside Lore-main btw.
  • Copy the plugin .dll file and the includes directory to your plugin folder
That should be it. However, currently Im finding that the current release version of Cabbage is reporting an error in the code.
Indications on the Cabbage forum (from Rory Walsh) indicate that PM build with a beta of Cabbage, so Ive tried the most up-to-date beta version, and whilst it compiles and runs Lore okay, so far it builds the VST2 plugin without the UI. Mileages may vary.

Lore is an ongoing project of mine - I make updates each month but I might begin staggering some months with new standalone plugins.
Lore is written in csound and as noted, uses Cabbage as an “IDE” that will export plugins in VST/VST3/AU OSX universal (M1 native) and Windows.

Lore was initially inspired by the long defunct Spektral Delay by Native Instruments but quickly took on a life of its own!

Again let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

Is this claim on the Cabbage page wrong?
Includes optional install of the latest version of Csound.
Should work on most flavours of OSX - but does not run on Apple PCs with M1 chip. Support for the M1 chip is under development.
Or do I need a nightly?

Could you let us know which specific version of Cabbage you're using to compile the Lore releases?

Afaik, the regular build of Cabbage will work on an M1. But I use a “Pro” version that allows encryption of the csound code (Lore is open source) and branding. I would ask on the Cabbage forum for any more info about Cabbage specifically.

I learned the key to getting Lore to run in a DAW is to create a folder for it in your VST or VST3 folder, then put the compiled dll, the Csound file (Lore.csd), and the "includes" folder from the build folder created by Cabbage in there.

It is remarkable how straightforward it was to do this.
