What? There was an upgrade price from 1 ro 2.
Was it $149?

edit: I paid $199, a VIP upgrade as I owned all their other plugins.

It's only people that buy their license s/h from someone else that don't get the upgrade pricing - and this was a clearly stated and well-known policy by Spectrasonics that the buyer should really have checked pre-purchase, if it was going to be a deal-breaker.

But on the upgrade page the price is listed as $250. That's what I paid for the original. And as far as not buying from them, it was the boxed set of CD's from them. I bought it from a web retailer, so what's the difference? I'm still forking out $500 for Omni2. The $149 upgrade is for people who bought Omni 1 right before the new version came online. There was this little nugget from a retailers website if you did happen to buy right before :

What if I recently purchased Omnisphere? Do I have to pay the full upgrade price?
No. The good news is that there’s a grace period free upgrade available from the Spectrasonics site If you purchased Omnisphere between October 2014 thru to May 2015.

So, I just kind of felt used. I bought before the dates.

The difference is $250.

You paid $250 for Omni 1. Omni 2 is $500. If there were no upgrade price, all together you would have had to have paid $750. But there was - and is - an upgrade price, so it’s only $500.

You owned Omni 1 for a time whereas all new owners did not, so you got extra value compared to newbies for the exact same price. Sure, you didn’t get a freebie but every grace period has its cut off point somewhere. Sucks, but this doesn’t seem to me like you were thrown under a bus.

I don't understand your issue. Somehow you bought Omni 1 for 250? Most people paid -500 for it. Then you got an upgrade like everyone else. So whereas many people paid 750 for V1 and then V2 upgrade, you paid only 500, as if you had bought only Omni 1. Seems like you got a good deal.

Most people pay 500 for Omnisphere but you feel "used" and you've "lost all respect for" Spectrasonics because <checks notes> you paid HALF that amount, and later had to pay for a full upgrade. oh boo effin hoo. guessing you just live to complain.

I know I said this in 2022... and 2021... and 2020... but *this time*, *2023*. Yup. Calling it. For real.

(See you all again this time next year...)
I think the problem is REX is becoming a deprecated file format. At one point it was the de facto format for remixing drum loops etc. but now almost any sampler can slice audio into Rex style slices, and you’re even seeing loop browsers not supporting the REX format anymore. Right now Recycle doesn’t even work on Apple Silicon macs in Rosetta. It’s that old. RMX will need it’s own format to stay relevant.

Don't worry, there obviously is a trend at the plugin market.
Either spectrasonics might cooperate with Native Instruments one day, then you would get their stuff for about 99 $ or join Plugin Alliance, then for about 30 $ :D

By the way, Spectrasonics has some minor fixes/updates for all their products.
The following components will be included in your download:

Keyscape Software 1.3.4c

Omnisphere Software 2.8.5c

Stylus RMX Software 1.10.4c

Trilian Software 1.6.4c

Release Notes

Omnisphere Software 2.8.5c (Version History)
Includes the following features and fixes:

Updates AAX plugin for native Apple Silicon compatibility.
Adds "Any" MIDI channel routing option to the MIDI Channel menus on the MIXER page. When "Any" is selected, MIDI Channels 1-16 are sent to the Part (aka MIDI "Omni Mode").
Fixes issue where the plugin output could become muted after loading multiple DAW projects in a row. This fix was added specifically for Cantabile (a Windows-only Host), but the error is likely reproducible in other Hosts.
Fixes note playback timing issues when Solo mode or the Arpeggiator were enabled and the host buffer size was large.
Fixes issue where the "Modulate with Orb" option in the right-click contextual menu did not work.
Fixes issue where the Patch dirty indicator (asterisk) could incorrectly disappear after using the UNDO command.
Seismic Pump effect: Improves TRIGGER button behavior when MODE = "Triv. Inv" and LOOP is Off.
Seismic Pump effect: Fixes issue with "Triv. Inv" mode where the envelopes were retriggered by incoming MIDI note events.
Mac only: Fixes issue on macOS where folders/files in STEAM could not contain a backslash character
Standalone app: Fixes issue where the Flow Capture feature did not record Metronome Tempo changes into the MIDI file correctly.

Okay, now its $500, not $600. Its getting cheaper. :tu:

And since you can get the update from 3rd parties for $200 or lower, so likely $450 or less

But basically, if this is about a cheaper upgrade than you were entitled to, then Im afraid you're just going to have to get used to the fact that there will always be someone out there who pays less in total than you. But, as pointed out, what you paid includes a much longer period of time of use of the software, so TBH, thinking about your absolute cost instead of what use you got from it is IMO kinda missing the point of why you'd buy a tool in the first place.

well...against all odds and though it technology is undoubtedly rather outdated, Recycle is still working here on my MacBook Air ? (Apple M1/Ventura 13.1)

Are they ever going to release any more sonic extensions? Since they were released, I've been putting off buying two that I want until a third is released so I can get the cheaper bundle pricing. I'm almost completely over it at this point.

Yeah, when this thread got bumped up, I was hoping for some news regarding new Sonic Extensions. It would be nice to see some new ones (especially for modern pop/r&b and alternative rock/pop genres), but until then let's consider it as money saved. :hihi:

Always amazed by the number of people that paid $500 for this considering its consistent MAP is less and it can be had with regular dealer discounts off of that.

That's cool, I haven't installed it because Reason Studios flatly state it doesn't work in Rosetta. In fact they say it doesn't work in Big Sur. So you probably haven't run into the functions that are busted in Big Sur etc.
