Zebra... Control B... modulation... CC11

I am new to synths and just purchased Zebra 2 and HZ. I plan to use Zebra inside Logic for added color with orchestral VIs. On my controller keyboard, I have a slider set to output cc11 which I use all the time for controlling volume inside a Logic region, as in adding swells or arcs to sustained strings.

I have found several Zebra pads that I want to respond that way but they do not. I see that by default Zebra has cc11 assigned to Control B. Where do I go in Zebra to see if Control B is "turned on" for a given preset, so that "if not" I can change it. I can not seem to find that in the manual, but this may be due to my being new to synths and their terms.

Bottom right there's a "matrix" TAB where you assign modulators to various parameters.

you can also replace default CC values for Ctrl A and B in settings (top right click on the little gear, then on the wrench)

Great thanks... Got it... I have confirmed in "gear and wrench" that CtrlB is set to cc11. And I see in the matrix tab that I can select and unused slot, and then "CtrlB" for the left knob. But which target parameter do I select to control the "overall" volume of the preset with CtrlB?

You can drag'n'drop to "Volume" under each lane that produces sound, i don't think you can assign it to a the master output.

Also, you can lock the matrix settings after you set it up, so they stay the same as you browse patches - but i suggest you use matrix slots 09-12 so you don't overwrite existing matrix assignments in presets.

Also - if you want to keep them, you can save it with the "locked" assignments as the default patch so it will stay like that until you decide to unlock it again.

I haven't dived into Zebra that much yet tho - so there might be an easier way to do this that i'm not aware of (someone else will have to chime in)

actually it's easier than that - you can assign CtrlB to volume directly below where it says "mod", if you click on [none], a context menu with available modulators will appear.
you have to turn the "mod" knob to the right and lower the volume

you can also lock that slots. (but could also overwrite existing patches if they have modifiers programmed)

edit: i just tried it but seems that if you do it via Lane mod slots the effects isn't as pronounced as via mod matrix.

I was still struggling to get any real change using the Lane volume (VCA1:Volume1) controlled by CtrlB. Then I realized that in order to get complete volume control of the lane (from silent to max) I had to turn the lane volume knob all the way down.(counter clockwise) It apparently overrides the CtrlB function.

And for a patch with more than one lane in use, I have to use the matrix and set CtrlB to the "lane volume" parameter for each lane.

Nothing overrides, but the modulator *scales* the volume. Re that last sentence, try the trick below, substituting CtrlB for mod wheel. Quoting the manual:
"VOL / MOD
Lane volume and assignable modulation knob. Modulation here scales the volume from 0% through 100% (center) to 200%. In the example above, the modulation wheel fades lane 1 down to silence, irrespective of the VOL level (which is about 70 here).
Tip: To fade in from zero, convert the modulation wheel to bipolar using a ModMapper containing a ramp. Then use MMap1 as MOD source, set MOD to 100 and VOL to 50.

Re controlling overall volume, there are many possibilities. E.g. use a Mixer in the FX grid, or for pre-FX volume, modulate "Send" and put all FX in Bus 1, or... With Zebra there's almost always a solution waiting to be dicovered!

I have the opposite problem. I can not find any way to delete CC11 from the Master Output on Diva or Zebra 2

Check the "MIDI Table" (cogwheel icon in top right corner, then switch to second tab) to see if you've MIDI-learned CC11 to these parameters. If you have, click the X next to that entry to remove it.
