I inserted a GranComp3 multi-band compressor plug-in and the Final Mix (Mackie) plugin. It sounds fine. Then I render it (24 bit) to Soundforge and then add the Wavehammer plugin (using the "Master for 16 bit" setting) which is for maximizing signal, and compression/limiting). At this point it sounds fine in Soundforge. Now, when I burn the track to CD, it sounds too bass-heavy (practically muffled) and loses some of it's presence (and some mids to high frequencies). Any suggestions? Anybody who uses Soundforge have any suggestions

Are you using the same speakers to listen to each of these steps (especially the CD you burned)?

yes, I am using the same speakers. By the way, I just tried something (Maybe I'm just doing too much processing). The track I just burned has no extra processing.....basically the only processing I did to the completed mix was in Tracktion with the Final Mix plug-in (using the dance music preset). Then I opened it in Soundforge, but only to burn it to CD. It sounds better. Maybe I don't need to do a "Wavehammer" on it.

You're compressing/limiting 3 times in a row, it's no wonder it doesn't sound right once you've burned the cd. Get your mix sounding as good as you possibly can through channel levels, eq and compression. The final mastering plugins are used as icing on the cake, not to fix up a dull mix (not saying your mix is dull, just proving a point).
Only once you're really happy with the mix should you render as a 24bit mixdown and apply mastering plugins. You'll want to multiband compress once using either GranComp or FinalMix (both are multiband compressors from memory), and take as much time as you need to sweeten the mix here. Then limit/maximise and truncate the bit depth of the mix using WaveHammer. But take care not to hammer your mix too much with this plugin as any loudness maximizer/limiter can destroy you mix quite easily. Make it as loud as you can without destroying audio quality or dynamic range too much (turn your speakers down when doing this to check it's not doing anything nasty).
