Spectral De-noise doesn’t take any effort to learn and works brilliantly. Did you try it?

Post

As much as I don't like iZotope, there's nothing that compares to RX in terms of a single comprehensive program that does what it does and that well. Those NR and De-rumble/De-plosive/De-wind algos are fast and incredibly effective. I hope that Acon gets there one day. I'd love to have a viable alternative to RX, but there's not yet.

Post

I use three: RX, Acoustica, and Audacity. They each have their strengths. RX can be too intelligent/slick for its own good, sometimes I just need dumb old pitch shifting or silence cropping and that's when I turn to Audacity.

Yep of course, I know how to use Spectral De-Noise. I just don't find it much better than Brusfri : for complex tasks (with different noise profiles for the same file) it's better, but it's also much more complicated to use and it's destructive, so very often I use Brusfri directly into my daw and in 5mn works done...

Spectralayers and generally thought to be the best is RipX remix.

Highlight the noise, click Learn, and then lower the threshold so it only effects the noise. I read the manual about all the extra settings when I was setting it up the first time but I haven’t touched those settings in years.

I’m so happy to hear that my so unprofessionally compiled list helped some of you. Thank you for the feedback.

Meanwhile I made some tiny corrections and now I hope that the list is more comprehensive.

I'd like to know if anyone has found any spectral editor plugins that offer a good clone (not Spectralayers or RX)

This is one of those truly gobsmacking moments in audio, a huge leap forward. It also shows just how far behind the curve iZotope has fallen.

Adobe Podcast is in Beta, and part of it is an Enhance Speech algorithm. Skip to about 3m15s for the demo:

And Pro Tools Expert have their own tests here - https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/produc ... t-any-good

You can try this yourself for free (for now). Just upload an MP3 or WAV here - https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance#

Yeah yeah.

The point is what they are doing is leagues ahead of iZotope. All their serious development stopped a couple of versions ago.

For anyone not ideologically opposed, it's just rescued two projects for me. For free. It's absolutely astonishing - one of them was a phone contributor. It hasn't quite made them sound like they're in a booth with a U87, but it's closer than it has any right to be. Only limitations are an hour's worth of material at a time and no file bigger than 1GB.

That's pretty wild! Thanks for sharing this.. I have been doing some tests and so far the results are very good.

I did some more tests myself. Here's a bit of the lunchtime BBC News, a contributor talking about a collapsed airline.

NB - KVR's player doesn't seem to work, so right click and open link in new tab.

Way better but still a little room ambience there, so for fun I put it through RX's Dialogue de-reverb and added a little compression to tighten it all up:

In case you're thinking dialogue de-reverb could do that on its own - no.

Thanks for posting it! I tried dropping in an instrumental loop and it added all kinds of formants, weird but kind of cool and fun. As far as serious productions go, you probably would want to avoid things that do that but I can see how it's perfect for takes that would otherwise be ruined (as you described), as well as for podcasts and videos where vocal quality is secondary.
