Was trying the demo of PatchWork v2.61 (x64) in Ableton Live Suite 11.2 on Windows 10 21H2. Getting the error message that the plugin can't be opened.

The VST3 FX-plugin demo of PatchWork v2.61 seems to run just fine. As is the VST2 Synth-plugin demo. It seems I can load VST3 plugins into the VST2 version of PatchWork v2.61 Synth. What drawbacks would that workaround have?

2nd question: Blue Cat's Late Replies seems a bit like PatchWork with added functionality. So instead of spending my money on PatchWork I was considering getting Late Replies instead. What features would I miss if I go that route? I supposed there is no instrument ("Synth") version of Late Replies, am I right?

Hi,

This is indeed a known issue with Live 11, which is the only host refusing to load PatchWork Synth VST3. Live won't give more details, and the Ableton team has been contacted and has not replied yet, so there is noting we can do apart recommending using the VST version instead (which anyway will work better in Live, as they have not implemented MIDI output for VST3 plug-ins...).

Maybe it will help if all customers having this issue report a bug to the Ableton team.

Late Replies is actually a very different beast, as it is a delay plug-in. Of course it can also load third party plug-ins, but this is not its primary usage. And it indeed does not work for instruments in most hosts. Also, patchwork offers multiple outputs for virtual instruments, which you do not have with Late Replies.

I see. I remember the time when Ableton support was answering questions competently within a few hours. Nowadays when I open a support ticket they reply maybe a week later with like "Have you tried turning it off and on again?". What happened to Ableton? Sad.

So yeah, I'll stick to PatchWork then.

Do you consider implementing oversampling / upsampling like in DDMF Metaplugin? I wish there was a mixture of Metaplugin and PatchWork: MIDI-channel filtering like in PatchWork and oversampling plugins that don't support it by itself like in Metaplugin.

You may want to check out the latest preview of PatchWork :-)

Heads up! A new preview of PatchWork is available and it finally fixes this VST3 synth version loading issue in Live 11, with a few other bonusses :-)!
