I use MDrummer's 9 channels (well, not all of them) to add decorative elements without having to program full pattern and having pattern changes. In Bitwig each single note can be on a different MIDI channel and each channel has a color, making it easy to spot them.

I understand that the 9 channels are sharing the same drum elements, the same drum kit. I tried loading a different drum kit while having channel # 2 selected and it's still the same drum kit as channel # 1. Can each channel use a different drum kit ?

I'd like to know other uses people have for using channels.

Cheers.

Sorry, won't happen, technical reasons (also it would be quite odd). Why don't you simply use another instance of MDrummer? That's the whole point of plugins after all.

I'm happy with using channels for decorative purposes. There's plenty that can be done that way, without modifying at all the base drum patterns. And it's easy to work with different MIDI channels within a track in Bitwig. A MDrummer drum set offers a good amount of pads and usually it's rare to use them all steadily within one song, so there's always room to have pads for decorative purposes. So all is fine.

About the different drum sets within one instance of MDrummer, I was just asking if it was possible, just in case . :)

Still interested to know about other uses for MDrummer channels.

Well, simple - in many cases you need different rhythms for verses, choruses etc... ;)
