I must admit I am surprised, I thought UVI was bigger than image line!
It's really weird how nobody seems to realize just how big Image-Line is. FL studio is by far the most used "DAW" on the planet, has been so for a decade or more. Not even by a small margin. Probably on the order of 10 to 50 times more than whatever is 2nd.

I would have thought Ableton Live was much more popular.

Any source for those metrics?

Maybe it's time to buy the remaining libraries I am interested in before they change copy protection scheme
To what? IL's offline one-time keyfile system?
IL are C/R now. Regkey died with 20.8.4.

I was curious about who owned UVI because I thought it had some financial link to Ircam but it looks like it was set up by Univers Sons which is a music shop in Paris. Although I may have got that wrong.

I don’t think there are any hard and fast stats on sales but if you look at Google search trends data the levels for FL Studio are slightly higher than for Live. Fruity Loops has been around for a long time so it makes sense.

whoa. not expecting this. hopefully it all works out for end users of both product lines. seems like this is perhaps going to allow UVI to keep being UVI though judging by that press release... but each product line will benefit from the cross breeding of all the things and shared tech etc. UVI has been really great about updates to Falcon with free updates to next version etc.. very much like FL in that way i think.

will be interesting to see how this pans out in a year or so.

They are just way more visible due to their advertising and innovation in using "influencers" very early on.

I don't remember when but some numbers have leaked every once in a while on how many downloads FL Studio gets per month. I remember it being six figures or more. Like.. it's on a _different_ level.

EDIT: I was wrong. At FL Studio 20 launch, in 2018, it was over 70k downloads per day!.

Some FL Studio 20 Statistics
I thought this may be interesting to some of you...

As of Sunday 27th.

Windows Downloads: 296,065 = 59,200 / day
macOS Downloads: 61,100 = 12,220 / day

Total downloads: 352,354 = 71435 / day

Manual usage instances: 238966 = 47,793 / day

I hope this kills iLok for UVI. I can't even bring myself to reinstall it in my new setup, so all those AIR plugins are....air.

...so

In the check out I can see - Purchase includes Lifetime Free Updates ..

1.Does that mean free updates for life ?? for the Power bundle products included?
2. Can the bundled vsts be used in another DAWs ?
3 . Can this bundle be resold - when I get too old to be bothered to use computers ;-) ... ??

Plenty of time to think about it.. but hey...maybe too many vsts is too much to deal with ...

As long as nothing changes or gets better and they retain iLok dongle authorization which is my preference.

Dirtgrain wrote: Fri Feb 10, 2023 9:15 pm Didn't Image Line cease support of VST plugins outside of FL Studio? Did they change their minds on that one?
They have their own proprietary format "FL plugin" which afaik is not supported by anyone else. But they do support AU/VST

So the big question is whether Image Line will port UVI to be FL unique, expand to make a FL version, or just leave as is.
Image Line wrote:While we support VST and AU plugins in FL Studio, we also develop plugins under our own 'native' FL Studio format that gives us maximum flexibility to unlock host-plugin interactions, performance and stability. The flipside is that these plugins are not compatible with other hosts. THEY ONLY WORK IN FL STUDIO.

What is the difference between an FL plugin and a VST or AU plugin
