Maybe it's time to buy the remaining libraries I am interested in before they change copy protection scheme or general business practices.
UVI was a great, customer friendly company.
I doubt it will stay that way.
I totally agree. I am really sad to hear this. UVI was probably my favorite and best run company.

A sad day maybe.

What do you guys think they're gonna do? Image-Line has offered free updates for their software for decades and constantly implements user-requested improvements. They're a great company saddled with an idiosyncratic DAW with probably a lot of technical debt, both of which are due to its age, a dev who's no longer at the company, and its origin as a step sequencer rather than a full-fledged DAW.

well I share your concern after being an Alchemy user. I see this must have happened before 24th Jan ..maybe there will be something coming out to customers..

Maybe they can finally discontinue Fruity Loops and just concentrate on UVI.

It would make some sense to do an Alchemy. But maybe if you’re right about the technical debt then just adding another layer might be a bit counterproductive.

Interesting to read the press release a bit more closely:
Jean-Bernard Celier, CEO of UVI comments: “I am delighted that UVI is joining the Image-Line organisation. They have understood the development and transformation of UVI. We share the same values and have a similar corporate culture. I am confident that Image-Line will provide UVI with the expertise and resources necessary for our future growth. We would like to thank Drake Star for their support and expertise throughout the process.”
It kind of reads more like a partnership than a takeover, and the press release originates from UVI rather than IL. It feels like a reaction to Soundwide, maybe a bit of a defensive move in some ways.

wtf? never expected IL buys a company like this, i thought UVI wouldt be bought from anyone especially not IL , hey im a FL Studio user, but yeah never thought they do such a step. i hope they dont ovetake themselves and the UVI products wont get badly affected. im no fan of company buys company even if im a fl studio user, i still hate the apple bought camel audio, also since NI and izotope etc. are cooperating (yeah on paper maybe or to bluff customers)with each other it all got so strange.

Ditching iLok might scare off third-party devs who worry about piracy. So it may not all be wine and roses with no iLok.

I won't even mention how much I really iLok these days.

What is Fruity Loops?

Maybe buying uvi is to improve the sound quality of fl studio's instruments and effects. I doubt they will make all the uvi products fl-only, there are so many of them that they would need loads more fl sales to make that profitable. camel audio just had a few products afaik when bought by apple.

I’m for it if there’s partnerships between UVI and FL employees like Angus hewitt who was the lead developer at FXpansion. I don’t see image line getting rid of VST/AUs, and maybe the price of UVI product goes down a bit.

Post

Seems a strange marriage to me, but maybe it’ll work out. I have kind of got used to upgrading VV each time so I hope they don’t mess things up too much with their existing product line. Cheaper would be fine, obviously, wasn’t planning on selling any of it anyway.

I hope they get rid of that stupid monolithic file update routine where you sometimes have to download a 20 GB file just to get one or two bugfixes. Pisses me off and I’m on 900 Mb/s internet. Must be horrendous if you’re on basic internet speeds.

Are you safe?

When I buy filters (Etch, Shade) then the company gets bought.

Angus Hewitt is involved here in both situations.

Hopefully Shade will fare better than Etch did.

I must admit I am surprised, I thought UVI was bigger than image line!
It's really weird how nobody seems to realize just how big Image-Line is. FL studio is by far the most used "DAW" on the planet, has been so for a decade or more. Not even by a small margin. Probably on the order of 10 to 50 times more than whatever is 2nd.
By used. Do you mean actual paying customers or the millions of people running unlicensed copied in the China?
