It was never a toy though, just did a limited set of things in its own way. Good luck to UVI and FL.
f**k you old dog, i'll modular you under the table
cocaine decisions

jamcat wrote: Sat Feb 11, 2023 4:27 am Image-Line has done it before. They acquired VST plugins like Deckadance and DirectWave from ArGuru Software and others and then made them FL proprietary.

They ended VST versions of all of their plugins.
Why wouldn’t they do it again?
1. ArGuru wrote Decadance but Decadance was released by Image Line. ArGuru worked for them.

2. UVI is an established company that has enough developers in its disposal. Why should they stop to produce VST/AU etc.? Aquiring one company by another company doesn't mean that all projects and all employee will be merged. It's possible in future but isn't necessary and inevitable.

It seems this is just another game of venture capital. Fender+Presonus, NI+iZotope+PA etc.

Of relevance, and a pointer perhaps, is that IL's annual accounts for the year ending June 2022 (which are of course a matter of public record and filed with the Belgian regulator) show that they already own 100% of the share capital of another well known developer;

A private equity company owns Imagle-line, essentially. Private equity is looking to add value to IL to make the company attractive to future buyers.

This is fine and dandy as long as the interests of software license holders match the interests of investors. Sadly, these interests diverge all too often. I expect the result of the new IL-UVI "partnership" will be increasingly obtrusive DRM.
eh?

That’s a very KVR response.

UVI is already iLock.

Feels like work. Still, makes a change from trying to unravel the finances of some of the larger haulage operators. Onion skins etc... :scared:

IL seems to be structured as IL Group>Holding Co>IL, which isn't unusual. Current and fixed assets to liabilities ratios all good, profit before tax healthy. If they could demonstrate professional competence, repute, maintenance etc, they'd have a good chance of getting a vehicle operator's licence. :hihi:

We will still support all DAWs.
Commercialy wise, it would not make sense to stop getting sales from non FL studio user :)
That's good to hear - can you tell us anything at all about what sort of changes it might mean?
