That’s not really what I said. I meant that you could pretty easily create very similar sounding samples from scratch.
I'll make the same point I made back in March when that post you quoted was made.

If someone wants an SY99 emulation they don't want "very similar sounding" they want an accurate emulation.

Just like when someone wants an Oberheim or Moog etc emulation they want accuracy. You could easily slap some generic filter on an Oberheim emulation and get "very similar sounding" patches but that wouldn't be the point would it?

Again people who want emulations of non-analog gear have just as much of a right to demand accuracy as anyone wanting an analog emulation.

We see people here examining analog emulations with a scanning electron microscope looking for any perceived imperfection from the original so......
zerocrossing wrote: Mon Jun 13, 2022 1:15 amAnyway, I don’t really care all that much if it ever happens. The Yamaha synths that I’m interested in having emulations of already exist to my satisfaction.
Then why would you come back to a thread about something you don't really care about and then dig up a three month old argument ?

Once again, I would be a customer for an accurate emulation of an SY99. Whether someone else is similarly interested or is willing to accept "good enough" is irrelevant to me. :tu:

I agree. There are many plugins out there that combine FM and samples and almost all will sound close enough or even better than a SY99 due to modern effects and enhanced modulation options.

For me it is all about the complete package. I want to load my old song disks into the internal sequencer of the plugin and I want to import my personal sounds from my old sysex dumps. If it does that and sounds good then I'd spend a decent amount of money on a new plugin. If it's just another plugin that does "something with FM and samples" then I don't care.

While TRacktion F-em comes close and in some areas surpasses the sy-tg range ..the sound is totally different ..there is something magical about the yamaha sound using the lookuptables for sine generation
The only piece of software that gives me the yamaha FM sound is plogue ops , then I spend a whole day converting the sounds made on ops7 to my tg 77 .
Do you have a few examples for TG77 voices where you had trouble converting them? I'd like to give this a try as well as I too have a SY77 and f-em and I always wanted to try this.

I did’t have troubles converting them , playing and comparing by ear .
P.s. I am talking about plogue ops7 - tg77

It would be cool to have a patch converter from TG77 to OPS7.

I own OPS7 and love it.

Good to know! Thank you! Before posting, I tried to search for it, and only found this:

Not sure if this is of any help https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/syn99/.

I upgraded Sampletank 4 Max to Total 3.5 just before Christmas because it was an offer you couldn’t miss.

Haven’t tried it you though because I added an SSD drive and I am in the process of clearing up the mess I have.

A rompler really won't cut it , there isn't even an fm engine on board

Big Tick Rhino follows the spirit, but is outdated today.

Furthermore I´d support the objection concerning the ROM. The 77/99 magic is ... not all synthesis. For me personally not much of it :hihi:

I don´t want to spread conspiracs theories here, but ... the stopped selling these masses of HQ content because they realized that they shot in their own legs with it. Those good old 80s engineers. Perfectionistic. Idealistic. Just good guys. Just the opposite of the VST industry.

I'd prefer actual synthesized sounds versus sampled, but here's another sampled version if anyone's interested:

Without knowing any of them personally, I would say the traits you mention are observable at least in the forum behavior and products released by BlueCat, U-he, Surge team, Sugar Bytes, and individual creators of Vital, Odin2, and Yoshimi, to name a few whose products I use. Also, poor management at larger companies doesn't mean their work force are bad guys, without ideals or desire to make superior products.
