I thought that maybe they will add some taste of this new FM engine to the Halion SE in Cubase but nope, same old patches. Just updated GUI, which is better but still has a depressing vibe.
They really could add one or two patches showing new capabilities.

The first demo track of Tales - Acoustic Guitar is simply beautiful. It looks like skillful players will have an amazing instrument to use.

No, it can be used with HALion 7 this case.

FM Lab comes with HALion or HALion Sonic Collection, but you can buy it for standard HALion Sonic too.

FM Zone, of course, is only for HALion as it's for building your own sounds.

I noticed this, I wish there was a way of defaulting it to "All presets" too. But if i open up a new project it goes back to program mode.

If you create a Mediabay tab (Plus button at the top of a Window), and load sounds via the tab, it will keep the "All presets" setting until you restart. Not ideal, but something.

You should be able to save the Mediabay settings, so it loads "All Presets" by default. But I couldn't get this to work (Not the first time I've experienced issues with HALion and getting it to use the defaults you want.. ).

If you save the default, in the Mediabay window, it writes a halpreset file to the "Documents \ Steinberg \ HALion \ Sub Presets \ MediaBay \ Search" path, and then shows it as User Default. It then proceeds to ignore it and still load its own default. Annoying.

It might just be a case of finding the correct directory to place the default preset. If anyone figures it out let us know

It seems to. If you go to the import tab there's an emulation section with 3 options in the mode menu - HALion, FM-X (Which, I think, emulates the Montage), and DX7 mode. Still not sure if it relates to something in the engine or the actual DAC. You can also set the min and max velocity here (The original presets were designed to use 0-100 velocity, so will play a bit differently if you don't adjust this range.. )

Another thing: Anmyone know if there are any new presets using the new Spectral feature? So far I didn't find any (but I spent a lot of time around the FM)

Hm, I don't understand. I use halion 6 with my linnstrument all the time. It is plug and play in cubase. I just have to select the note expression instrument input and then I can play with all controls supported. Did I miss something?

You did. It only works in Cubase, not other daws. Not even poly aftertouch works in other daws.

I had a DX7 synth at one time. Wish I still had it. You can find the Jeff Gibbons youtube review of Halion 7 and he also compares patches on the DX7 in his studio to the DX7 in the FM zone. They sound so exact you wouldn't know. Yamaha knows what they are doing.
