Glad I read that, was about to buy…not going to now! Maybe I will wait until there is a demo- I used to own an early version and it was horrible on a 4K monitor.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 12:55 amYou did. I use halion 6 with my linnstrument all the time. It is plug and play in cubase. I just have to select the note expression instrument input and then I can play with all controls supported. Another thing: Anmyone know if there are any new presets using the new Spectral feature? So far I didn't find any (but I spent a lot of time around the FM)![]()

Can you automate the steps levels (destination pitch) in the step Envelope?

I think I'll enjoy my MODX even more now.
It's an interesting thing, that some were dreaming of on various forums: we have now a current hardware synth that has an almost exact replica in software. I can sketch FM-X patches on the MODX and then start my computer and refine them and expand them in HALion.
Sure it would be nice to have a way to directly translate MODX FM-X patches to HALion, and I think it would be technically possible with all modulations and assignements (the new X-LFO in HALion looks suspiciously similar to the Motion Sequences in MODX), but I doubt they'll do that.

The cross grade is pretty good saving (from 300 to 214) - from Falcon, Komplete, Kontact or Omnisphere

The step envelope can modulate pitch, but i can't seem to automate each individual steps (the bars)? Halion is new to me so maybe i've missed something.PAK wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 2:48 pmyesCharlie Firpo wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 10:49 am Can you automate the steps levels (destination pitch) in the step Envelope?

Just to be totally clear, I haven’t tried Halion 7. I tested Halion 6 in Bitwig and while the per voice pitch bend did work, I could not get any kind of per voice aftertouch, be it per channel in an mpe mode or simple poly aftertouch. And thete did not seem to be any way to get the expression modulators to respond to mpe messages. I tried on forums and could not come up with anything. So as far as I can tell you can get per voice pitch bend but nothing else outside of Cubase. And I’m guessing that if that had changed they would have said something, or someone would have. But I don’t know for sure.SLiC wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 8:43 amGlad I read that, was about to buy…not going to now! There's so many automatable things that you have to assign stuff manually. Usually you do that with a right click (Assign to new automation). However the step-sequencer doesn't do it that way. I'm guessing it's this which is likely what's confusing you.Charlie Firpo wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 3:48 pm The step envelope can modulate pitch, but i can't seem to automate each individual steps (the bars)? Go to the top of your current sounds window, click the plus button (create tab) and add "Automation". Select "All" inside of there. Now you can see what's assigned in HALion.
Next, enable automation Read and Write on the plugin (R and W in Cubase). Now, go to the Stepmod window and select the step "nodes" with the arrows (the small box next to the # sign at the bottom left of the stepmod window ). As you select up/down it will assign them as automatable, and you should see them appear in the HALion automation tab you created - the names will be Zone.Stepmod.Step X where "X" is the step number. (Note: it won't let you assign anything if you didn't draw something on the step!!)
To see them in the host (assuming Cubase) show automation on the track, click where it says volume, select more, and then HALion. Inside there you can select the HALion automation which will appear in your Cubase automation lane. HTH

They already have the HALion 7 manual out. 684 pages of RTFM

I have no idea why I love reading these, but here we go ... read, mess around, rinse, and repeat.

CPU can go through the roof in the spectral re-synthesis oscillator when using unison mode with two or more voices, to save some CPU cycles, reduce the maximum frequency in the analysis window (similar to reducing the amount of partials in an additive synth). The overall quality of the re-synthesis is really impressive.

Plogue's OPS7 is less than half the price of FM Lab VST. Has anyone compared them yet?
OPS7 is meant to be the most accurate emulation of the DX7, capturing all the nuances and the warmth of the original instrument.

Halion 7 is equally horrible on a 4K monitor (I have a 32") and the GUI is not resizable. Vendors are still somehow stuck in a 1080p universe when a large part of the pro market has moved on to 4K years ago.SLiC wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 8:43 am Glad I read that, was about to buy…not going to now! Oh, and in dark mode on the Mac, some of the Halion 7 dialogue box buttons are white text on a light grey background. Can't even read it. Very, very sloppy.
