Hi chaps
I tried to download Tracktion1 from the Mackie site and got asked for a NFR code?
I've already searched the first 6 pages of this forum looking for some kind of clue and I've emailed Mackie but still waiting on a reply.
Can anyone please tell me - what is an NFR code and how on earth do I get one?

Thanks.

NFR = Not For Resale. You'll need to register the software, but IIRC can use it for a while (30 days?) before it demands it. Seems to me the registration is done from inside the software. I'll look into this and get back in a couple minutes.

Righty, here goes.

Mackie will send you an email containing an attachment called "Tracktionkey.tracktionkey". You get this when you sign up on the Mackie website, I think (http://my.mackie.com).

In Tracktion, click the "About" button. On the About window there's a big button "unlock this copy using a keyfile..." Give it a poke with the mouse, then browse to wherever you saved the Tracktionkey.tracktionkey file, pick it, and you should be home free.

HTH!

If you go back to the original thread about the free Tracktion, there's a link to the page with the link to Mackie. On that page where the link to Mackie is,there's a code which you paste into the form at Mackie to request the download.
Besides that,the skunk's right...

Thanks for all the help and advice!!

Am sure there will be more random and probably blonde questions as I go along - ohhh and some cake as well!! :hihi:

Current problem is - I can't find my tools - pencil, eraser and that sort of thing!!

Oh boy are you guys in it for the long haul!!????

:hihi:

Thanks again! Oh and it's Mrs (that means happily divorced round here  !)

one thing it took me a while to learn is how to make an empty midi part!

select a track you want to plonk midi onto, and press 'G' on the keyboard!

[if you look at the bottom 'properties' panel there is a button for that track that does the same thing]

if you double-click that new midi part, it'll expand it so you can see the piano roll! now if you're waving the mouse around inside, you'll see buttons for pencil, eraser and cursor tools at the left hand side, which will let you draw your notes in.

you can stretch the height of the track for 'fatter' notes to work with, and you can zoom in (to make finer edits) in a number of ways; my personal favourite is to RIGHTCLICK->DRAG the background. you zoom by stretching the page out from the cursor (so first line the playhead cursor line thing over where you want to zoom). if you drag AWAY from the cursor you zoom in, if you drag towards the cursor you zoom out! it's super!

good luck with your editing!
