Well the Navbar on the left doesn't work at all.
I get:
"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e10'
No value given for one or more required parameters.
/scripts/getContent.asp, line 22"
Can you tell me is this site supposed to replace SectionZ.com?
I just recently joined there - and I can't even find how to review someone's work.
It doesn't matter anyway because now I keep getting:
"ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd'
Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record.
/artist.asp, line 76"
whenever I click on an artist's or song's name.
In any case, when I first downloaded a song there was no option to post a review.
So initial impressions - not good.

If you wanted to make a website and also deeplink to your files – here at K-v-R – then check out
http://audioshot.com
the packages start from free – with a subdomain type account and then move up to full cpanel web control. All accounts are housed on fast servers in the USA and connected to major backbone providers.
Yey! Second post for my new AudioShots user name – I used to post about hosting under my Spe3d user name – so now I have Two user names at K-v-R
AudioShots = hosting related
Spe3d = K-v-R addict and posts too much

Nope, this is a new "listeners" website where people can go and just listen to music. The idea behind this new site is that people can stop by and check out some tunes for free. We're probably going to give the option to download these tracks too. All the music you find here is from people who paid for our premium membership.Caleb wrote:Can you tell me is this site supposed to replace SectionZ.com?
Thanks for all those bug reports - We've taken apart a couple pieces of the site to add a couple things and some of it went down because of that - should be fixed in the morning tommorow.
A new sectionz.com is being built, based on this design which I hope you like better than our current one. In the current one after you download a track you just refresh to get the option to review - we know this is stupid, and it'll be better when we finish the new site
I'm actually glad you're first impressions aren't good; it gives us more reason to work harder. I do hope it's the bugs that aren't making you happy though, because we're pretty happy with the design

Well it's also the confusion of having multiple sectionz sites and the fact that I seem to need a separate membership to my sectionz membership for the sectionz forum making me feel like it's 4 different sites.
And then not being able to review something I downloaded (and I'm sure I hit refresh and went back into that artist's page a number of times afterwards to try and convince the review option to show).
The idea behind making people review things feels restrictive but isn't a bad idea all up.
But also - I just remember this site going through a number of major overhauls over the years because at one stage previously I was a member (god knows what happened to that membership) and I did get some messages about various different versions of SectionZ (or maybe I just read announcements posted somewhere).
And it seems like you're saying how sucky things are and I'm thinking - how many versions again?
I can't see any point is distinguishing between a location manager and a resource manager. It seems arbitrary and a bit silly. They're all just different locations yeah? Things like that actually make navigation more tiresome.
The insistence not to use capital letters makes me want to scream.
Alot of the fonts - especially navbar type fonts are just too small or too painful or something to look at.
The Reviews location seems to be a bit silly. I think you'd just have mp3s recently reviewed under the mp3 section rather than have a whole new a kinda parallel section.
The latest post in the forum section down the bottom is white on black and again - something about the fonts used just puts me off even beginning to read these things.
The fact that if someone posts a link to a track outside of SectionZ (like here for example), you occasionally get to download their song by clicking on their link. Sometimes you are not given the option and you're not sure where you are or what you need to do next. I presume this is some sort of every-x-clicks drag the user to this screen so that we might be able to get someone else signing up.
Also the site seems to be FL and Reason centric, which puts me on the outer a bit from the start.
There are things I like about the site and I'm glad you're still working on it. But I just thought I'd have a bit of a vent about the things I don't like as you seem pretty interested in finding out things that might be problems with the site.

Caleb, yeah we do have a few sites but each one is for something different:
http://www.sectionzmusic.com - a listening area for people who aren't members of sectionz. there's no reviews required, no membership required, just stop by and listen to some tunes
http://www.sectionzrecords.com - a website created to celebrate our first signed artist, deadmau5. we will post news about him and his album and all things related to it here as well as give info about music licensing and other things like this.
and finally http://www.sectionz.com. our portal for musicians where they can share their music and listen to music from other musicians. this is the site you're talking about that you don't like in design - trust me we know - we've been listening to everyone to find out about the things they don't like and working hard to find ways to make the site more user friendly.
now, i was kinda hoping we could talk more about www.sectionzmusic.com - the listeners site. because we have to get through this first before we can start rebuilding sectionz.com
edit: links on left are working now.

Oh -
I thought you were giving me a licence to whinge about the other site.
OK - I'll have a closer look at the listener's site.

under chapter 18, section 11, paragraph 4, your license to bitch only includes materials found on http://www.sectionzmusic.com
seriously though if you do have suggestions speak freely so we can make this listeners site as good as we can. Of course we won't be able to do everything people request but we can try hard to make it suit everyone's wishes
when we're ready to start unveiling the main sectionz.com site you seem like an ideal beta tester and I'll remember that

what!@?!? now there's a section 11 too? god help us...
btw if it's reviews you're after, I've been a sectionz.com member for over 2 years and if you give sincere reviews you get sincere reviews and it's very helpful. you upload unlimited mb of tracks too...this alone is worth figuring out the navigation... seeing as to participate... the only cost is having to figure out how the site works. good to hear of upcoming enhancements too.
if you want non artists to hear your music... pay the measly $10 now into an @sectionz.com membership so you can have your music available from the new listeners site sectionzmusic.com... because that $10 is going up soon i hear.
i just really appreciate the real-ness and non-greediness and contests (i've won a few hundred worth of software and hardware so far
and opportunities and reviews and .... and... and... of sectionz.
