Linda Audio releases Sonicrusher - versatile compressor plugin with some extra features. Sonicrusher does not model any real hardware but it is capable of everything from gentle transparent compression to extreme compression that will smack your drums hard. It can be run in Modern level detector mode (feed-forward) for fast and hard transient shaping, or Vintage (feed-back) detector mode which is more gentle. It has adjustable knee and RMS and of course hi-pass (and even lo-pass) sidechain filter. It can work also in "Split" mode, which compresses high frequencies separately with slightly different parameters (It is useful for example on vocals or on some synths). One other special feature is "Crush" - band-pass or hi-pass filter with overdrive which can add some life back to the compressed signal and even can be controlled by actual compression. There is also clipper with adjustable threshold, and dry/wet mix. Automatic gain compensation is also available.

I've just clicked on a random samplepack from the newest mag that I don't own, saw no quizes and downloaded the thing. (But I couldn't do anything at all with the free plugins suite, though.)

I've just clicked on a random samplepack from the newest mag that I don't own, saw no quizes and downloaded the thing. (But I couldn't do anything at all with the free plugins suite, though.)

So if I go to https://www.filesilo.co.uk/ then click on Computer Music I'm presented with magazine covers and their corresponding numbers.

I clicked on CM #314 and scrolled down to get to the Software section and clicked on "Download the NEW CM PLUGIN SUITE". When you click on the green Download button you will or should be presented with "Computer Music – Your free plugins" - "Answer three questions to access your free plugin and download the New CM Plugin Suite" and then a button to start the quiz. (there is a way to answer the quiz with a little Google searching)

CM #315 doesn't have the quiz. It states the quiz is over for some reason. No idea why.

I came across the "Freequel Bundle (https://noiseengineering.us/products/the-freequel-bundle-sinc-vereor-virt-vereor-ruina)" from Noise Engineering the other day and all three of these plugins are extremely inspiring. Two of them are synths and the third is a very interesting stereo distortion I'm having a lot of fun with.

I don't know if anyone has posted this. I searched this forum & didn't find any hits. I tried this yesterday because I've been reading it's a free alternative to Soothe. I haven't used Soothe but I did try this and the effect is very good with minimal CPU hit. I think it does more high frequency taming/compression with no artifacts. I liked it.

Since I was on his Patreon me actually has all of those. There were some hints on there about this one, have to search for them but then can post here. About Vastaus, I never really figured out what it exactly does, so just tried to learn how it works. Its surely no Soothe, yet also no DeEdger, which does more to the Transients. Vastaus can indeed DeHarsh things if used properly and once you wrapped your head around it.

About Vastaus, I never really figured out what it exactly does, so just tried to learn how it works. Its surely no Soothe, yet also no DeEdger, which does more to the Transients. Vastaus can indeed DeHarsh things if used properly and once you wrapped your head around it.

I've tried it briefly and essentially:

- there is some sort of clipper internally
- the "tame" control seems to be a frequency control for a sort of dynamic high shelf (?), the higher it is, the lower the frequency is (and it gets quite low, like in the hundreds of Hz)
- react makes transients go through?
- bias shifts the action more to one side of the waveform (more to the positive or the negative side, respectively), adding 2nd harmonics
- input gain leads the signal to hit the clipper higher, so that even after taming the treble, you essentially add treble content back in as distortion

Sounds quite good though, and can be abused as a nice sounding saturation.

I really like it and the designer is major talent. It sort of reminds me of Sausage Factory, but you're right about the 'Tame' button. It can throw some really nice frequencies in whatever you put it on.

Agree this dev should have more attention. After Vastaus they released Temper which also focused on the high end, but sadly it seems to have disappeared/been discontinued.
