I’m guessing neither you, nor Xfer, nor Slate got a chance to peak at the code. I also noticed that your plugin doesn’t null with the original (although it does sound very very close to me - if not identical). You put 2 presets in, the second one imitating the Xfer version, so I’m guessing that the Xfer one isn’t identical either (all these years I just assumed that it was). So, any insights you have here on the development, or, the challenge of cloning a sound like this would be interesting! Thanks!
A mix of very thorough and educated measuring/examination and some guessing I would say.
There are only so many common compressor designs, it's rare for people to completely reinvent the wheel here.

I think the not nulling part could be related to slight differences in the crossover filters or slightly different timings, nothing you would really hear in a side by side comparison of course.

I believe the actual dynamic processing algorithms to be quite accurate though, in my measurements the dynamic transfer curve visually aligned 1:1 with Ableton with every setting I've tried.

There are much more components in an effect like this where a small difference would make it not null than for example a waveshaper.

IMO the original Ableton OTT sounds quite different to the Xfer plugin.

Hey Bill, currently there is no external sidechain support in OxyOTT. I could see adding it in the future if there is demand, but I would have to evaluate the possible implementations first before I could tell you how it might work.
I would buy this if there was external sidechain, you could get some really cool rhythmic stuff going with the right sounds.

I'll probably buy OxyOTT to support the dev, and hope they add features :)

The sidechain feature would be super cool. As far as I know only Steinberg's Squasher does this right now.
Squasher is a multi-band compressor that combines upward and downward compression, allowing you to squash the audio signal. You can set up different parameters for up to 3 frequency bands and use internal or external side-chaining sources to control the amount of compression for each band.

Definitely some creative possibilities here.

The steinberg one is exactly what I want, thanks for the link.

I’ll wait and see what this dev does before buying, I’ve quit supporting devs for the sake of it, been burnt by fly by night devs in the past.
Hopefully sidechain gets added :)

Obviously, Squasher is only available Cubase. I think they added it in Cubase 11. I use Cubase 12 Pro for anything video related, vocals, sound design (SpectraLayers pro and Melodyne ARA2 integration is so convenient) final mixing, and mastering. Cubase makes a great companion to Bitwig.

Does Squasher have an OTT preset?

There is no preset labeled "OTT" in Squasher, but it's relatively easy to match the sound pretty closely.

While it´s actually a shame that the best OTT plugin is a DAW´s native one and none of the developers out there seem to understand what it makes so great and versatile and are still missing the best features even if there is somebody who already gave a (perfect) blueprint years ago... :dog:

Hey KVR,

just released a big feature update for OxyOTT to version 1.1.0!

Image

Including external sidechain, sidechain routing, adjustable crossover slopes, additional global scaling options and much more.

Also added optional tweaks regarding the UI, such as OpenGL rendering. If you had trouble with the UI smoothness on Windows before, I suggest you try again with it enabled :).

Existing customers should receive a download link in their mail inbox shortly.

Here's the full changelog:
// 1.1.0

// Features
-Added external sidechain support with gain, mix, phase invert and through (latency-compensated) options.
-Added per-band sidechain input option, allowing to select from all internal and external split-band and wide-band signals.
-Added per-band sidechain gain and sidechain listen parameters.
-Added global scaling parameters for Above/Below ratios, also allowing for ratios past infinity (fold back/fold up).
-Added global scaling parameters for Attack/Release times.
-Added global scaling parameters for Mid/Side mixes.
-Added option to change the slope of the crossover filters to either 12dB/oct, 24dB/oct or 48dB/oct.
-Added global minimum Lookahead time parameter.
-Added options to change In/Out gains to absolute behavior, excluding them from being scaled by other parameters like Amount.

// Preferences
-Added OpenGL rendering option to improve UI responsivity with some setups/hosts.
-Added option to disable the spectrum analyzer to reduce UI load if needed.
-Added option to disable the background image to reduce UI load if needed.

// Bug Fixes
-Fixed incorrect reported latency while Clip Only option is active.
-Fixed Mid/Side processing of mono channel configurations.
In addition, the plugin will be on sale until the end of August 2023.

As always, you can try the free demo and purchase the plugin here:
