Well in my opinion, a 1680 px monitor is an inadequate tool in 2023. YMMV!

True, true, but check the Internet Users Screen Resolution Realtime Statistics for 2023

The saying "He who seeks shall find" appeared in its full glory :)

I found a way to improve readability and also took the opportunity to spruce up the font used for tags.

It can be done if you navigate to C:\ProgramData\VIP\skins\VIP
and modify the 'searchResults.properties', 'browser.properties', and 'controls.properties' files with a text editor.

This is how it turned out now. Maybe AKAI VIP isn't dead after all?

I have this but never use it. Is it stable/useful enough?

Big Tick the developer is who was in charge of this one, did he stop developing it?

No mention from Akai nor him, kinda looks like more vaporware now.

Pretty sure that AKAI have stopped developing it. The last update I have is from 2018.

But they are still selling it, just like with the legacy AIR instruments that make up the majority of the VIP instrument bundle.

Yes, but I can't keep my hands off it, as well as my old hardware synthesizers that are 30+ years old. :help:

If you have it, you can still use it and it's still stable here on Windows 10, as far as with the plugins it works with. But only a test on your current system would confirm it still works in your setup.

The biggest advantage is being able to browse tags for all of the imported factory presets for your included plugins. I currently have about 31,000+ patches available in VIP here, and can quickly create multis with any 8 patches. The ability to use insert and bus FX plugins with any of them adds a lot of flexibility.

The main drawback is that VIP cannot scan/load VST3 plugins, so it is end-of-life if you need those. But since VIP also runs as a plugin in your DAW, so you can layer VIP in your DAW with tracks containing modern instruments or other plugins such as VST3.

But the VST2 support still works well, especially with plugins that fully communicate preset names & data with a plugin host. That enables importing presets and banks manually. But there are some third-party plugins that don't do that, and I have always avoided using them in VIP. That was always a challenge for anyone in creating a "universal" plugin host, some plugins behave better by design than others. VIP cannot "fix" a bad plugin design.

There are quite a few factory patch maps for popular older synths included, that you can use if you own those synths. So I find VIP still usable as far as those synths are concerned. Obviously you won't find any new synths released in the past 5 years (since 2018).

Suggest starting VIP up, and going to "Settings > Plugin manager" to see what you can scan a & use from your plugin collection. You can set your plugin scan folder paths in there. The "Map" column on the far right of the manager indicates if a factory plugin map is available for a plugin, and the "Patch" column shows how many patches are in a map. You just click the down arrow icon next to the map name to import it. Then click "OK", and any plugins and/or maps you selected will be imported.

Actually, I'm surprised by how big the preset library it has, and the automatic download of the preset for most VSTis I have!?

The only issue I have is with the KORG Collection - M1.

Korg Collection M1 presets load without distinguishing between PROGs or COMBIs.

So, VIP loads preset but doesn't change the M1 MODE. So it keeps loading presets in the last/current mode of the Korg Legacy Collection M1.

This is only happening when browsing for patches from the left tab VIP presets.

However, when selecting presets directly from the KORG Legacy Collection M1 software - the VIP software is correctly following and allocating the sounds in the left tab, and then it selects correctly between COMBI's and PROG's. Strange.

VIP has around 1500 presets for KORG Legacy Collection M1, but it is hard to believe that this hasn't been solved, as it was several years ago they added KORG Legacy Collection M1 to its library.

Do you happen to have the same problem with the KORG M1 VSTi as I do?

The VIP map with 1524 presets for M1 all appear to be Combis. At least the ones that I checked (but not all 1524 obviously).

But if I import a single M1 Program selected in the M1 browser, VIP recalls that patch in the correct "Prog" mode.

The problem is that VIP somehow doesn't pass over the COMBI -OR- PROG info for the M1 VSTi presets. You can check that if you just save a user preset, one COMBI, and the second PROG. Upon load, it will not switch between PROG/COMBI at M1 VSTi.

Maybe that is just something on my system? I'm using the latest v2.4.0. Korg Collection -M1 VST2 version.

Oh, too bad about vst3, that's basically all I use :(

Hope they update it, the features seem good.

That ship sailed about 5 years ago. No releases in that time, and no evidence of continued development. It's EOL as far as I can tell.

Yes it had a good feature set, nothing else much like it since...
