MNotepad option to catch the spacebar ?

Letting the spacebar through is really useful in all cases (to start/stop the DAW) except when using MNotepad. Is there an option to catch the spacebar for that plugin ? Currently one has to click on the keyboard at the right so that spacebar hits are caught by MNotepad. Clicking on the keyboard brings up a new window of a standard size which has to be resized to see all the text, not that much useful.

I think the culprit might be your DAW. Some, like Bitwig, don't send spacebar to the plugin in the first place.

It's working fine with REAPER on Windows for me.

But then, by clicking the little keyboard at the right of the text field in MNotepad the spacebar works as expected. It certainly did not modify Bitwig's behaviour. I guess it'd be a matter if only one DAW amongst the existing DAWs is like the not-very-popular Bitwig then it's not worth it to spend any time on providing an option.

I'm not 100% sure how it works, but I think the main plugin windows are created by Bitwig and the plugin's GUI gets embedded inside of it. So the plugin only receives keys forwarded by Bitwig. The keyboard window is created by the MNotePad, so the key-presses go to the plugin directly.

You could write Bitwig support to have an option to send the spacebar to plugins which I already have. Maybe if enough people ask, they add the option.

Depending on how much you type, using shift+spacebar or ctrl+spacebar might be a usable alternative until then.

Shift-spacebar at the rate I type words is not practical at all.

There are two perspectives to approach this. One as you mentioned is from Bitwig, which would actually be from a generic platform to identify and make a behavioral exception for one plugin amongst hundreds, if I understood correctly, and the other which would be more immediate, a question about MNotepad :

What does that little keyboard at the right supposed to do anyways ? And then, why clicking it solves the problem ?

The MNotepad user manual does not seem to mention it.

I answered that question to the best of my knowledge in the reply above yours. And if Bitwig doesn't send the space bar to MNotePad, there's nothing Vojtech can do. Maybe he'll let us know what the issue is on his next visit here.

Edit: Actually, I remembered it incorrectly. I've tried Analog Lab in Bitwig, and it receives the space bar just fine. So it should be possible for MNotePad as well.

Of course, it does send the spacebar and I use the spacebar hundreds of times in MNotepad ... each time after I clicked that little keyboard at the right of the MNotepad user interface.

I tried to find a plugin that catches the spacebar 'naturally' but did not find one. I have a limited selection of plugins after all in Linux compared to people being able to get and buy everything without pondering about OS compatibility questions.

As you have seen, the spacebar gets to the plugins all right. As it does to MNotepad just as well if ... [On a dark mysterious musical backdrop] one calls the mysterious little keyboard icon spell !

Like I said, that's a new window that isn't controlled by Bitwig.

When I had the issue, Robbert, the developer of Yabridge, said that it's a Bitwig issue and there's nothing he can do to solve it. But that was over a year ago. Maybe something in Bitwig's behavior changed since then. Or maybe it's a Linux thing. Bitwig on Linux has a few other issues that aren't present on Windows/Mac OS.

OK, thanks for your comments.

EDIT: The Analog Lab plugin you've tried was also a second window from the original plugin window ?
