Steel rods are great, so are thin steel plates!
last year I banged on a steel sculpture in a park with my field recorder
funnily enough, i was thinking about a steel plate. ive seen them used for cymatics.
i used to work at a place about 5 mins away, as a sheet metal worker, might see if they will do me an offcut with a hole :band:
then sort out some threaded bar and bolts!

There's also an electrical part similar to a kalimba bridge thats called an 'earth block'. Can be used to hold steel rods, like bicycle spokes, something I saw Tom mention on the original Music Thing website years and years ago.

wow...thank you!

im getting a parts list together to make one of these type noise boxes right now...i was looking for this part but didnt know what it was called.

btw...for anyone seeing this in the future...seems in the u.s. they are more commonly referred to as terminal blocks. putting that in (the u.s.) amazon instead of earth block returns a lot more hits with a wide range of different kinds.

good lookin' out
