Dear Casio, please build an updated SK-1 and keep the price low. eBay/Reverb prices on them are getting stupid now, so it's time for a reissue.
I've become very sensitive to the use case for standalone products. I know that other people like them but I find desk space to be a premium. Further, I just end up not using products that aren't ready to go. So, yeah, I'd play with it for a bit, then it would sit idle. Probably for a decade or more.

It's a fair comparison, guess back then sampling was a novelty and could be sold to the masses. Now it's a boutique endeavour with a price tage to match. Guessing it could be an interesting open source project (I know someone started an OS OP-1-a-like at some point...) Daisy board and a bag of switches...

The mechanical keys are nice, if it was a durable metal case I probably wouldn't mind the price myself.

A weird thing - dressed up like a toy for 7 yr old Japanese retro nerdy kids but obvs quite a capable looper/sampler. I'd imagine it could be quite powerful in the right hands...Great for looping buskers? Not for me, but it might carve itself out a niche market.

Is it so capable, though? It just seems like an SK-1 with a basic effects processor.

Basically yeah. But it has minutes of sampling time, you can adjust the playback speed in realtime with a knob and it has a cute logo that almost say MHH I'M MISTER FRUNDLES...

I don't know. I like it. Not 500 bucks like it, but I like it. Seems like a fun thing.

$500 for that?

lol
Exactly so on all counts! "You've probably been wondering about this section over here." Well, no, not really, I was waiting to see if this would get interesting. Oh, a looper, yay, click. No YouTube, I don't want to "continue watching."
Yes, YouTube has become voluntary paid programming. I miss the old days.

Personally, the "MHH I'M MISTER FRUNDLES" aspect of it is almost as offensive to me as the price. When I had YouTube playing in the background and the video came on again, I found that I liked what I was hearing much more than when I watched the video.

A customer once asked us to build a pink guitar for his 10 year old daughter. When she saw it, she hated it and said we only made it pink because she's a girl. Even a 10 year old knows when she's being patronized. These people are patronizing.

my issue isn't the colour, but they describe it as quirky.
that's like the idiot at work who has to tell you, he's the office clown.
ill decide if you're quirky :x

I still want an OTO machines mixer and that’s a bright pink.

But I get it… the patronization is not the color but the design.

So much obviously went in to making it look cute and “quirky” that I’m wary of it not doing enough to justify its cost.

it has to be some colour or other, or transparent. at some point it may as well be pink. it's just one frequency in the spectrum of light.
that said, id prefer purple personally.
but then im not buying one anyway.
next loopy thing i want is the soma cosmos.

I shall paint it desert camo and use it as a WMD in my otaku war games. Then it will serve as my advocate when I am tried for my crimes. All hail The Great Pangolin!

Purple is the best color. Samuel L. Jackson isn't wrong about that.
