Using mouse to record automation to track as default

I use my mouse to record automation from a vst but it always goes into a midi clip.

Is it possible for it to record onto a track.

I find it easier to edit the automation when it's track automation. With midi clips you can only use the pen to draw and it's hard to get things precise imo
