Hello,

I try to get better in melody writing for this I want to understand more about some songs and I cant hear what melody this is for example:
https://youtu.be/_FQsNhz3tg8?t=166
is this an Arpeggio or are those 2 or more note chords with a rolling bassline underneath?

https://youtu.be/ccXr1zTIc6Y?t=221
This one is similiar, but its more clear to me its an ARP with 3 notes following each other and the change in the top note creates the melody to my ear.

https://youtu.be/CfZo3CULa3Y?t=191
Another example where I have troubles getting into the thought process of writing such a thing.

Please tell me if I'm write or wrong and especially how to approach writing a melody like this?
Do you start by the rhythmn of the top notes and fill the space with the other ARP notes or do you start with the low notes.

Thank you

From an Oldskool perspective these are not great examples to try to learn from as there is an overwash of FX going on. I have no problem picking out the various parts which are quite simple & without the FX would be boring. You should concentrate on tunes with LESS FX & learn those by EAR then all you have to to is apply the FX to these simple 'riffs' & you got it. There's not much in the way of melodies here, more 'riffs & 'arps'.

After you train your ear a bit on 'less FX' you will then be able to better pick out anything that has more. Training the ear solves most all problems but it takes a bit of time & patience...

actually it helps that you say those are easy melodies sounding complicated due to effects. However I would still appreciate ur help whats going on in those tracks and how to approach writing such arps. Nevertheless I will try to disect easier melodies however those now are stuck in my head and driving me crazy 🙈

OK, Well, I had an hour to kill so I figured I'd make a short 'Example Video' with annotations for you. It is raw, unedited except for the annotations & almost embarrassing but hopefully it will explain a bit. It's not as complex as you might think it's more like kids 'lullabies'...

This is for the first video 'On Acid'...

Simple AVI video from one of any of the three hosters-
