I dunno, that Audrey and Japri thing is an abomination and I can't imagine anyone would find that Mexican Radio cover anything but dreadful. And if I was going to pick a Sisters cover, it would be their version of Hot Chocolate's Emma, not Gimme Shelter, which just sounds terrible.

I think most people, including myself, prefer the originals to covers 90% of the time but sometimes you get gems like Jimi Hendrix doing Bob Dylans All Along the Watchtower....BONES wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 1:34 amI dunno, that Audrey and Japri thing is an abomination and I can't imagine anyone would find that Mexican Radio cover anything but dreadful. Dylan said: ""It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using."
Also Devos version of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" is tasty.....
It really shows an artist talent when its done well......
Here are a couple career changing covers.....

Didn’t we do this recently? Anyway, here are a few covers that I prefer over the originals
(ok, this one is a tie with the original IMO)

Let's be honest, though, it's not hard to sound better than Dylan. All his songs sound better when someone else sings them.PatchAdamz wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 2:46 amI think most people, including myself, prefer the originals to covers 90% of the time but sometimes you get gems like Jimi Hendrix doing Bob Dylans All Along the Watchtower....
That version really does nothing for me. It's easily the weakest track on their first album. It's definitely better than their version of Working in a Coal Mine, though, but not as good as Secret Agent Man.Also Devos version of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" is tasty.....
I think dying young was the best thing that happened to Jeff Buckley's career. It took Hallelujah around 15 years after its (album) release to chart. For 10 of those years he'd been dead. Here are a couple career changing covers.....
I think, mostly, people like the first version of a song they hear or the one they have heard the most. A cover needs to be really, really good or offer something different and good to be able to cut through that preference.

Oh, and I can’t forget the Trashcan Sinatras’ cover of The Smiths’ “I Know It’s Over”

I quite like this. I find Primus very hit and miss, though. Their cover of XTC's Making Plans for Nigel leaves a bit to be desired.
