Midi Out over USB not Working under Waveform Pro 12?

Hey all,

I have just jumped on the Waveform bandwagon (v12 pro). Studio One has been my main DAW for the past few years, but I am really enjoying this DAW.... I have followed the development on this over the years, but V12 has really seemed to come together.

Anyhow, I have run into a problem early on.... I am trying to send midi clock out of Waveform over USB to my Korg Sq-64 Sequencer using the DAW as the 'master' (basically hitting 'play' in the DAW which then would start the SQ-64 sequencer). The Korg SQ-64 shows up in the midi devices list and for the output device, I have selected the option to send Midi Clock. When I hit play in Waveform, nothing happens on the SQ-64. The SQ-64 doesn't even register the tempo from the DAW.

Just for comparison, in Studio One, I created the SQ-64 midi output device and selected the option to send midi clock. When i press play in Studio One, the SQ-64 immediately begins playing and the screen confirms it is receiving midi clock from an external device. This basically works as one would expect.

I know all DAW's have their quirks, so maybe I am missing something? I am hopeful that some one here can point me in the right direction. :)

I'm on WIN 10, Waveform 12 Pro (latest updates), most recent Korg midi driver.

Many thanks in advance!

As a data point: I am running a pure MIDI setup with Waveform Free and it's behaving as expected. The only thing that took me by surprise is that each track individually needed to have its MIDI In and MIDI Out be set to the proper USB device. I am used to other DAWs where setting the IN port automatically adjusts the OUT as well.

Check settings / MIDI devices on OUTPUT; and make sure you are sending MIDI timecode and midi clock. (for the XKEY it doesn't make sense; but it is necessary for my MPK261 to use arpeggiator in time to the music)

For starters, thank you both for chiming in! Your solution of making sure that the track output was pointed to the midi driver worked! As long as any track in the project has the output set to the SQ-64, the sequencer starts with DAW playback.

I mention it this way because I am using the SQ-64 to drive soft synths at the moment (i just like doing some of the programming on a tactile surface) and if you change the track output to the midi device, no audio from that track can be sent to the audio output (which makes sense). So I just made a 'blank track', changed the output from the 'Default Audio Device' to 'SQ-64 1 Seq' (in my case) and everything is in sync.

One additional question .... I noticed that stopping the DAW transport does not stop the sq-64? In some sense it does stop for a second, but then the SQ-64 starts playing again at the unit's set tempo. It doesn't stop completely. The Korg does have an 'auto detect' midi clock setting, so you can easily just hit play on the unit itself or drive it from an outside clock... it latches onto whatever gets there 1st. Auto is the setting I have it on. Not a deal breaker, but not how it works elsewhere. I will try to set the SQ-64 to only respond to USB midi clock and see what happens.
