Also, IKM has a questionnaire out right now with one of the last questions asking "Would you consider a subscription model in place or in addition to the permanent license for T-Racks or it's modules?"
Answer choices are "Yes, I would be interested in a subscription." "Maybe, depending on the price and the gear included." or "Absolutely not."
It looks like they're feeling out the sub model too..

You can simply rename the new ones and existing project's should load just fine (at least in my hosts that is the case).VitaminD wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:19 pm Also, with IKM, each version requires a download and installation. So if you have the TR3 bundle and are using TR3 Classic Compressor and upgrade to TR4 now you can't just use the TR3 Classic Compressor without installing TR3's Classic Compressor if your project called for TR3 Classic Compressor. It won't just use TR4's version. The plugin is fundamentally the same between V3 and V4 but since it is part of a different package, and the plugins themselves have version numbering in their naming, You have to keep legacy versions on your hard drive.

That's an interesting trick, thank you. But then aren't you still stuck with multiple copies of files for each version? And what happens if you upgrade TR again to a new whole version? Do you have to keep the old names for all projects to remain intact?jens wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 5:01 pmYou can simply rename the new ones and existing project's should load just fine (at least in my hosts that is the case).VitaminD wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:19 pm Also, with IKM, each version requires a download and installation. If new plugins are added to the collection now there are different version names and numbers to keep track of. That still seems messy.
It would have been smarter to not have version names in or on the plugins internally and just used versioning on the licensing and sales sections in my view.

Not if you rename the original plugins (and delete the previous version).VitaminD wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 5:23 pm That's an interesting trick, thank you. But then aren't you still stuck with multiple copies of files for each version?
Yes, exactly. And what happens if you upgrade TR again to a new whole version? Do you have to keep the old names for all projects to remain intact?
Well, they are simply named a little differently. Just searches might not show them all at once (e.g. if you search for TR5, both the pre and post V5 ones won't show up), that's the only drawback and mess I can see.If new plugins are added to the collection now there are different version names and numbers to keep track of. That still seems messy.

CLA 2A and 1176: UAD LA2A and 1176s are all native now
SSL bus comp: I like the brainworx Townhouse comp better than the ancient code of Waves' - I appreciate it has a blend knob as well
SSL channel/V2/whatever the hell it's called: i'm not one for channel strip plugs, but I think the brainworx SSL channels have some cool features
Kramer: the UAD Studer is native now also, but I don't think I'd drop the coin unless it was on sale (if I didn't already had it). I really like Satin; Acustica's Taupe does some cool things also. Goodherz' tupe has a lot of cool features also - I haven't played with it enough

Yes, is this different with VST3?

Yes.
VST3 imbeds the identifying plugin and developer information, regardless of the file name or folder location. Much like mp3 tagging. It is far more robust, as you can probably imagine what kind of problems may arise from VST2’s simplistic file name approach: File name conflicts between plugins, plugins no longer loading in projects, duplicate plugins in multiple locations or with different file names, etc.
These are some of the many shortcomings of VST2 that VST3 was designed to address.
VST3 instead allows developers to decide whether or not their new versions replace old versions, or sit along side them, by whether or not the new version gets a new VST ID, or inherits the old one.

Actually, IK stuff is such an integral part of my workflow I would at least consider it (instead of paying for each MAX bundle and then waiting until the next one becomes available). It might make economic sense for me at that point, depending on the price they would be asking. They have so much users they will probably be able to set the price very low.VitaminD wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:25 pm Also, IKM has a questionnaire out right now with one of the last questions asking "Would you consider a subscription model in place or in addition to the permanent license for T-Racks or it's modules?"

Yeah, I don't know... I have some excellent tools from Waves and they were all great value and they all work fine for me on Windows.plexuss wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:39 pm Community prepared list of Waves alternatives to help you be independent of this risky plugin company with a track record of stupid anti-customer leadership:
