I don't envy their Sys Admins and DBAs for sure. Corporate is putting them through the ringer.jamcat wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:58 pmNot only that, but they would have had everything ready to go right back, rather than a message saying “We are currently putting all our efforts into making perpetual licenses available to you again, as quickly as possible.”VitaminD wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:27 pm I agree, vurt. There is no way they'd have gone through converting their website and the underlying infrastructure to support subscription only if they had intentions of using it as a ruse to get people to value WUP more.
Right now the Waves IT department is desperately hitting undo delete on their trash can.
Waves already backtracking

All I saw, I think, at Thomann were various sub plans. So, nothing has changed for new customers, anyway.

Freaking communists like everywhere now.

I personally opted into various developers by purchasing second hand licenses on the cheap. My first NI, IK , Arturia , Plugin Alliance, Audio Damage,AA, and Melda purchases were all cheap second hand licences; many from the KVR marketplace. I own almost everything these vendors sell now. Once I was in the email list and got both the latest news and discount offers directly, I was “in”and happy to be there. Arturia and Ni don’t even charge for licence transfers. My guess is they know it is good for business to bring someone else into their ecosystems.
jamcat wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 4:15 pmWaves is already more generous on that than they should be. License transfer fees ought to be equal to the full price of the product.medienhexer wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 3:59 pm And license transfers without active WUP? And how about that transfer fee? If I want to get rid of Mercury, I have to invest 240 bucks for WUP and what, 350 bucks for the transfer?
Second-hand license sales are the #1 driver behind the move to subscriptions. Every time you buy or sell a “used” license, you are pushing that developer closer to going sub-only. It’s no coincidence that the subscription model first appeared right after the ECJ’s atrocious ruling in UsedSoft v Oracle. It’s bad law that has had devastating consequences.

Or perpetual licenses will just be sold strictly from the Waves website? There are a few things not really expressed in detail for how the future looks for sales with this company.
