Hi, I wondered why Seq Gate is the way it is in hive. It seemed to not do what I expected, so I took a closer look.

To reproduce:
Use a simple 2-step-sequencer. Make sure both notes are velocity 100 and mod 100.
Turn filter (1) cutoff to 0 and apply modulations in the matrix like in the image.

Make also sure there is no funny business happening in amp1 and mod1 envelopes, put both to 100% sustain, 0 attack and 0 release. And also attack and decay in the sequencer should be 0.

If you turn off dynamic velocity in the sequencer you can play a note now and turn each of the modulations in the matrix on, while keeping the other three off.

Notice the filter opens the same amount for seq mod, mod1, and gate.
Seq gate though doesn't sound the same. Bring down the Mod value of both notes in the sequencer to 80 now. Compare Seq Mod and Seq Gate modulations, they sound equal now.

So my question is:
Am I missing some place where Seq Gate is scaled by some amount or an envelope is applied?
Is there another reason the output of seq gate is only 0..80 while almost any other modulation source produces values from 0..100?

cheers

Yes, Seq Gate scales to the sequencers velocity value, i.e. its "gate height" if you will.
The sequencer has a max velocity setting of 100, so not the full 127. Enable "dynamic vel" and now the sequencer's velocity setting scales to the velocity of your played note - hit the keys hard and 127 is now the max velocity of that played note. And that's reflected in the "seq gate" as well, you'll find that now it'll also scale up to its full amount.

Thank you, you're right. I somehow expected the 0..100 velocity range to be scaled to 0..127 but it's actually the top 27 values cut off. I didn't know that before, thanks again.

Also when modulating the pitch with seq mod one needs a weired modulation amount in total of 416.66 when each step in the matrix should be one semitone. :D
