Hey Urs,

Thankyou for the info. I think most of us understand the task ahead of you and we appreciate these updates. Many of us who are in far off lands just need a friendly "how she goin" now and again...after all there are very few industries where people will give money up for unproven products even before they are released.

I have never doubted your talent as a software guy and your passion for plug-ins so I am waiting in anticipation for this wonderful instrument as I know it will eventually come.

I don't ever want to come across as pushy or abrasive but I do want Zebra to be producing sound from my monitors asap.

By the way, Filterscape looks awesome..... :)

It's Friday, innit?

The latest update:

Some minor issues with the new engine are ironed out. In the current version of Filterscape, the LFOs and stuff don't always sync as expected, now they do. Hopefully.

Also, Filterscape VA is quite finished, I'm doing the graphics today. By adding oscillators to this synth version of Filterscape, I could also improve the way I use to build oscillators. While VA's new "Waveform Warp" parameter only works on predefined waveforms, Zebra 2 will let you warp between user definable spectra. This is dope, comparable to movements possible in PPG synths (Wavetable Synthesis) or CA5000 (Additive Synthesis).

Yeah, a lot of improvements here and there. More later.

Cheers,

;) Urs

I wish it was! - Actually, as posted last week, I'm gonna buy a pc next week.

However, F'scape VA shows that the new engine works as a synth, which is a way more complex thing than just building an effect. And... it furtherly shows that the hugest time killer in development, the gui, can take me somewhat less time than normal. I've done this ui in a day, not in 6 months. Even if you take into account that I had some of the graphics prepared, it's still *very* fast, innit?

The third u-he synth? What can it do, that Zebra + Filterscape can not do?
Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.

Well.

I wouldn't really consider Zoyd a full featured synth. It's more like a demonstration object. Hence I'd say, FilterscapeVA is my 2nd synth...

FilterscapeVA can't do many things that Zebra can. It's not modular, it's not as flexible, it has only one filter, it doesn't have additive synthesis. On the other hand, it's got Filterscape's EQ built in for each voice, which makes it a bit more cpu hungry, but nevertheless useful for a couple of interesting sounds.

So, allthough it looks much like a stripped down version of Zebra, it has its own sound and it's own strengths.

Here's what I came up with:

http://www.filterscape.com/songs/Filter ... _demo1.mp3

Overall I think one can hear the improved quality of the oscillators that will also be part of Zebra2. While Zebra doesn't need the EQ per voice (you can already emulate that with the built-in filters!), it will get the EQ as an effect, for better control over the spectrum.

The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

Wow, nice demo ... Do I still need to save money for impOSCar? :hihi:
This VA thingy should be the answer to all peaople who complain that Zebra does not ship with enough bread-and-butter patches. ;-)
I assume Zebra 2 will get a GUI that follows your Filterscape line? Say "yes", Urs ... ;-)

Other than that, I read from your words that Zoyd can be considered discontinued, right?
And what is about MFM? Is Filterscape considered a successor, or do you have it still on your list?

Well, Zoyd will get the update for Logic 7 compatibility, but that's all.

MFM is a delay primarily, while Filterscape is a filter in the first place. For MFM2, expect the weirdest delay ever.

Oh... my new GUI framework supports skinability. For those who find Zebra's GUI *mute* (well, better use it first before drawing conclusions :P ), there's a chance that there'll be an alternative, more shiny skin in Z2.

Now, yesterday I walked up 30 minutes in the cold to the mall where I had seen a shop advertising a nice AMD 64 machine with all required components. Entered the Mall... but the shop was gone!!! ARRRGH. So, I'm about to order it online now 8)
