I'm sorry if this is not the place but I want to find other people using Tracktion (along with Reason 2.5 if possible) to collaborate on music projects.
I'm looking for people in/around NYC. We can exchange files over internet or send CDs to each other but I'd also like to meet once in a while.
I've been writing songs for a long time as a hobbyist, but I'm new in the digital music production world.
I have a P4 3Ghz 512 MB PC, Tracktion, Reason 2.5, M-Audio Mobilepre, guitar, bass, midi controller keyboard, guitar fx processor. I don't care about T2 or Reason 3. I've got all I need to make music and I just want to do it.
I'm looking for decent, nice, non-greedy people, who are open to any kind of music, and who preferably know a bit more than me, so I could also learn something from them, who could add instruments, fx, deal with mixing/panning, for songs we would work on together.
I'm a doctoral student so I can't handle time pressure. So this person must be a hobbyist like me, but also wanting to move forward and improve themselves.
Please let me know if you are interested or where I can find such people. I even post on craigslist but no luck so far.
Tracktion is awesome, too.

I'm primarily a guitarist, so if you need some guitar collab, let me know. I'm in Ottawa, though, so meet-ups are a no-go. The time contstraint thing works for me, though. I'm not as pressed for time as you, but I do value my 'free' time and I don't want to have to feel too much pressure to meet strict deadlines for a collab.

You ask for a collaboration mentionning a tool (ok 2 tools) but not at all mentionning the style of music you want to make.
Wouldn't that be important you think, I agree you said 'any kind of music'. I doubt you would do ANY type of music

yea, you're right, i realized that after i posted. but i am a quite open-minded person. i have a bunch of mellow soft rock songs. that's 1. i have a bunch of piano tunes, which come alive when you add fast drums, but i'm primarily working with another person on that, but i got a bunch.
i also want to do weird stuff that is maybe more than music. soundscapes that involve elements of music. conversation, lyrics, weird sounds, beat, synths, guitar, all of them from all styles mixed up, a collage that defies categorization and destroys your expectations.
so far, i only have mp3 examples of working projects of the first 2 kinds (mellow rock and piano based). but they are in progress and glitchy. but maybe in the near future i can actually post some examples.
BUT BUT BUT.... THE IMPORTANT THING: I like the surprise element in life and i like lack of total control over things. So, what I want in an internet collaboration is to simply work with whatever you have, find ways to converge (or diverge in meaningful ways) with whatever the other person puts into a tracktion file.
Maybe not so much for the totally-predictable mellow rock songs, for which there is a solid recipe. But for other, less lyrical stuff... The music will evolve as we pass the files to each other back and forth. Both of us won't know the end product in advance.

I'm like the idea of unpredictable stuff, soundscapes/improv etc., but I'm in the UK.

I use Tracktion/energyXT/Wusikstation plus any decent free plugs (Plugsound/Sampletank/ etc.) that I can find
I'm keen to learn and experiment, and take risks rather than just produce normal stuff.

The same way you do WITH the lossy stuff, but just change your quality settings. I've often thought there could be a better way to do this. Recently I've been learning some PHP and I know that tracktions edits are XML files, which can be parsed pretty easily with PHP (or so I've been told 
)
I've been thinking that you could potentially have a php script that compares two edit files, and forms an archive containing needed .wav and .trkedit files to download. It would probably require both computers to run php and apache for simplicity's sake, but you would only have to be running them while you synchronize.
Of course, I've got a long ways to go (and a lot of other things to do) before I could even attempt such a system, we'll probably see t2 first. Hopefully t2 still uses xml files for the edits.

Yep, seems like the real beauty of this here internet is that people get to collaborate even if they can't physically meet, and it makes for an interesting new realm of collaboration, IMHO. Being in the same room is cool, but there's a level of purposeful disengagement that might happen if you separate either in space or time. So, I guess you could say I'm interested in this online collab. thing as well. I'm in Seattle, BTW.
Under the 'projects' tab, click on 'export project' in the lower right hand corner; theres an option for exporting as a single file or directory with lossless compression or no compression at all. Actually, multiple edits in one file could be really really cool. Hmm...Speaking of collaboration, can someone really point me to how to do it easily in T? Without lossy stuff please

RPM, that's a splendid idea; but why limit yourself to peoples you can meet in person when you can have access to talented peoples from around the globe? I would love to hear what comes out of such collaborative effort.
As to myself, I would love to be able to participate in this, but I'm affraid I would act more as a pupil as opposed to a collaborator as I'm very new to all this. I have a gazillion ideas, but failed to bring any to satisfactory completion due to either lack of technical knowledge, or just plain lack of talent. In any case, here's a sketch I did last night, another one for the recycle bin I'm affraid as I don't know where to take this, but it reflect the type of sound I'm after at the moment, don't know if it could inspire anybody.

What if we tried to make a piece of music with four or five instruments, all using the same free VST? Call it the Tracktion Christmas Challenge if you like.
For example, I created 8 bars of music with 4 tracks, each using a separate instrument in Plugsound Free. The trkarch file size was 22kb. So it might be fun to see if we could create 32 bars of music together (approx 176Kb?). I know there is a limitation on the type of instruments you can choose, but that's part of the fun.
I'll volunteer as drummer, and I would be looking for others to create (say) bass, pad, and lead.
Anyone interested?
