You should demo DSEQ 3, it’s incredible.
Does what Soothe2 and Gulfoss do, and a lot more.
And it’s 79 euro.

DSEQ is not capable of doing most of what Gullfoss does.

That is not what it does (unless you use it on white noise...).

I have both, I’m recommending the cheaper option. Gullfoss is good, not nearly as flexible as DSEQ.

Can you explain what it is doing?

Is the 139 USD for Soothe2 the best price its ever been? Is it really worth 50-60 USD more than Gulfoss?
Officially yes, but second hand, no. I got my Soothe2 license for $100, the same price as spiff.

Really personal preference, I’m still pretty new to using them so I can’t really answer which is better.

I thought it was just using spectral bands (however many) to 'conform' the incoming audio to a preset frequency response, with the closest comparisons being TEOTE or perhaps DSM V3. There's overlap with something like Soothe for example, but quite not the same intention in design.

Grain of salt as I may be wrong.

Before buying Soothe I demo'd and compared it with DSEQ. I kind of agree with what various people have said in that you can often get better results with DSEQ, but you have to work harder and know what you're doing to get there. Soothe is just instant gratification within seconds and the interface is very workflow-friendly. Saves me hours of tedious automating in Crave or Pro-Q.

I have TEOTE and was initially quite stunned by it, but I've slowly gone off it a bit, thinking that if my master is off-balance I'd rather use EQ or just dive into the mix channels and get a better balance that way. If you turn up the processing so you can really hear what TEOTE is doing (artifacts galore), I think it tells you to becareful with it. Still, it works in tiny doses, as I'm sure Gulfoss does too, if not more so (by other accounts).

IK gonna IK, Total Studio Max 4 upgrade priced at $250, more than 3.5 cost to buy full a few days ago.

Edit: edited a bit as some of my info was from an incorrect JRRShop page

I think that is a bit of an oversimplification but it generally describes the idea behind it. It does the matching dynamically though. Last time I checked iZotope the match eq had to be set globally. Gulfoss (as well as Teote) match continuously.

Yep, and then they are going to go on here to say that it's a fair deal trying to justify the BS they pull instead of listening to their customers! I'm still on TSM2 and the only thing I use is Modo Bass which is and has been buggy af since I got it. Once I get Trillian I'm done with IK.

Time is money bro. If you save time, you are saving money too. Those are the tools that are really worth it.

Yes, the upgrade price seems too high compared to what Studio 3.5 Max cost right before Max 4 came out. But I guess we're comparing a sale price to a regular price. I'm confident that the upgrade will be available much cheaper somewhere in the future.
Are you sure that Max 4 doesn't have the Max version of Syntronik 2 though? It has all the 34 synths from Syntronik 2 Max. That's 12 more than were included in Total Studio 3.5 Max.
I didn't use to be a friend of IK, mostly because I was annoyed about the fact that the sound downloads are only valid for 180 days. But now that I've bought Total Studio 3.5 Max I don't feel ripped off at all. I got so much for my money, I've forgotten all about the grudge that I held against them.

Actually you’re right on that, I’ll take that bit back, I’d got that info from the JRRShop site
https://www.jrrshop.com/ik-multimedia-t ... -upgrade-3
but they haven’t updated specs yet so the info there is still referencing the last version and only seem to have updated the images. Still stupid pricing though.

So the best upgrade deal for 3.5 Max users currently is $250 which is $50 more than full 3.5 and you can’t use JamPoints. Just not worth it.

Sorry about the confusion! I’ll update that.

Purchased Gullfoss earlier today.

Redeemed the iLok key and Gullfoss license shows as NFR.

Bit bizarre, considering that I purchased it from their own website and there was no mention of license being NFR anywhere during the process.

Contacted support earlier today but got no response.

Is this normal, are other people also having Gullfoss NFR license after purchasing it from Sound Theory site directly?
