Serum is an excellent synth, it is silky smooth in operation/Gui knobs etc. and the knobs relate well to what you hear when in travel. It is one of the cleanest (just like its GUI) sounding synths without being totally sterile. That is a fine line to walk and the guy who made it did that very well. The effects are very usable on serum as well.
That is why many non clueless idiots use Serum.
However Serum is not a synth you would use as a first choice for example for vintage sounding synthesis as it would require much more work to get it into that sonic space.
Very good for modern and clean sounding, metallic, spacey, twisted, distorted sounds and FM styles, lots of cross oscillator sound mangling possible.
I had Sylenth1 first, other than a few obscure forerunners then somehow I bought about 25 other VSTi's many of them mainly subtractive. (often with WT's though)
I don't regret any of them as they all do something very unique. And what price on sonic enjoyment ? I am sure some spend $5K on golf clubs. I am still getting the value from that investment in synths. And just for balance I own 3 U-He synths as well I just don't put them on a pedestal, it depends more on what music you make what fits the bill best.
Even that can change over time.

I just think it's a better sounding synth. It's not that complex if you're making the kinds of sounds that diva makes. The filters are crazy flexible as well. I have both but diva has always been a bit boring for me.

I feel that I will make people crazy but if we are talking about very good sounding synths, I always had a crush for Spire... How come isn't it more praised. Surely it is much less easy to use than Serum or even Diva but I love the way it sounds...

Diva is good at emulating the general spirit of analog synths without being good at emulating any particular synth if it makes sense. Sounds really good but like any VST you probably don't need it.

I agree, Spire sounds very rich and full. Might be, that most of the clueless idiots get attracted by Serum because it is really easy to master at least with the first steps and there are many tutorials for almost everything. But that doesn't imply the other way around, that all Serum Users are clueless idiots. In terms of GUI, Serum is a real piece of art, because it has the widest spread, which I can think of, between an easy to use GUI, making it almost perceived as an undercomplex synth in the first step and therefore going incredibly deep, if you want. Don't forget: Serum has some features you still find rarely anywhere else today like up to 8 MSEGs, freely configurable as LFO or ENV and each point and curve bend can get modulated itself. Or it has still the most complex/deep Wavetable-Editor in the market, including formula editor, import wavefiles, or draw curve/additive. Or you can freely draw a waveshape in the distortion Fx, or.....
So you could spend half a lifetime to explore all the capabilities, if you want. Far beyond a synth just only for idiots, I think. If you then get happy with the sound, is another story.
