If there’s a hardware or software synth with better and more flexible per voice distortion, I’m unaware of it. Examples, or you’re just trolling.

There are loads of analog synths that "overload" in a very musical manner when you crank up the oscillators beyond a certain point. The Waldorf Pulse 1 and 2 come to mind. The Pulse 2 also includes a dedicated distortion circuit that is useful for creating Acid basses and leads. I'm not sure if this is the type of "distortion" you are referring to.

Moog make several modern mono synths on which it is possible to both overload the oscillators AND add a dedicated "overdrive" circuit before the filter. Both types of "distortion" sound great.

Since my Opal trial period is up, I can't directly compare Opal to the Subsequent 37. However, I can say with near certainty that i would prefer the Sub 37.

How do you do PWM on this ting?

From the manual

Offset - Sets the duty-cycle of the outgoing square wave. This is similar to the "PWM" control found on the square wave output of analog synthesizers.

So why is this ting cannot do prophet 5 style poly mod? It would be the perfect software synthesizer. Sounds so good. But no poly mod? Am I missing something?

You can't mod cutoff and OSC freq with any of the oscillators fair enough. But sometimes you can do it with the LFO - Massive X for instance. However the LFOs in Opal are so primitive. You can't do key tracking? CAn't do per note modulation? You can set the waveform to random and then the beating goes out of note sync, but it's not like poly mod

But polymod is just an FM...Opal hs that option. And for other options you have mod matrix. So whats the problem?

But polymod is just an FM...Opal hs that option. And for other options you have mod matrix. So whats the problem?

If you show me how you do it in Opal I buy you a beer.

You can only do 2:20 if you use the random shape on LFO/ in Opal but that is not the same as the triangle shape LFO per voice on the Prophet. It doesn’t even work on LFO1 in Opal for some reason, I mean the random shape will always be mon opposed to LFO per voice, perhaps a bug. It won’t do per voice just a mono LFO even with random shape on LFO1
In the filter section there is FM to LFO2 but again not per voice.

thank you, this doesnt seem to be something dificult to make in Opal, ill try to do that when im at home. Have you tried Repro 5 or model 80? they are prophet clones.
