There are loads of analog synths that "overload" in a very musical manner when you crank up the oscillators beyond a certain point. The Waldorf Pulse 1 and 2 come to mind. The Pulse 2 also includes a dedicated distortion circuit that is useful for creating Acid basses and leads. Moog make several modern mono synths on which it is possible to both overload the oscillators AND add a dedicated "overdrive" circuit before the filter. Both types of "distortion" sound great.
Since my Opal trial period is up, I can't directly compare Opal to the Subsequent 37. However, I can say with near certainty that i would prefer the Sub 37.
