It's just baffling to me as these latter 2 changes to efficiency seem to be done in favour of... wider space for device/template names? I guess you can see long template names now?

I have exact opposite feeling. I love that pop-up browser could be small and simple, without all this tables and filters. The new browser is great. For me it just needs to fix all those little regressions i post above. It just different and requires some time to understand its workflow.

Because the Quick Sources have no text and are icon only, I would like to see a few icon choices for users to choose from.

On the side browser, I would like to see the Quick Sources break into a second line. Otherwise they force the browser to get wider and wider.

Would be great! And even upload our own icons in .svg format like we do with colour palettes.

I suggested both options in my email to Bitwig. :hihi:

Absolutely, I will email BW as well...

I will just say that I preferred the old browser a lot, specially because it did give so much more info and options at the same time and it was much better to use with midi controllers like launchpad (which is really important to me).

Just give us the option to use the old one.

For me, something that was visually relatively calm and mostly speaking one visual language (text in columns) is now a hodgepodge of hard to read icons at different sizes, all kinds of wildly different areas that my brain has to scan in different modes to make sense of what is what.
Before I could just hide columns I didn't use and presets were clearly separated from devices and samples etc., just as I want it.

Now they try to throw everything at me at once.
I hardly use presets or content with Bitwig, I don't even let it scan my sample library since I prefer Resonic Pro to browse those.
I usually save presets in my Plugins or build new sounds from scratch, so 95% of my use is just loading devices and plugins.
Everything else is clutter to me.

I can use the new browser, but find it pretty horrible and my ADD brain is getting overloaded instantly.

For me, the pop-up-browser (I don't use the side browser since they last changed it and it became a mess) was the last thing on earth and in BWS that needed to change.

It seems there is a clear love/hate dividing line through the userbase... :-)

Cheers,

Tom

If you just want devices and plugins set it up that way, then save as default or save as a smart collection.

So you can get it too look like this every time you add an instrument or fx:

In that case, filter for only devices and plugins and make that your default. Then all you will see are devices and plugins.

And once you set that up as default, looks visually simpler and cleaner than the old browser.

Personally I’d like to do everything in the side browser and dispense with the pop up one entirely - it just gets in the way, I only use it to load presets anyway and to have it opening every time I just want to browse or load a preset is annoying

I must say, the more I work with the new browser the more I hate it...
Nothing... but really nothing works the way I would expect it to work, silly sorting, silly filtering, 100 times more click intense and crowded...
The only thing which works better now is that devices load faster after selecting in the browser, but this is really all for me...
If there is now a major showstopper in Bitwig, it´s the browser for me...

I choose to think that everything we think annoying or slow or silly right now is going to get fixed or improved because i think some of the Bitwig devs actually use Bitwig themself for music? *please say yes* :)
Just an optimistic theory on a Monday :phones:
It's beta so complaning (reasoning) is legal and appreciated now i think, go for it! :phones:
Ps, thank you btw :)

I would really like to agree and to share your hope...

Let´s wait and hope...
To have done what I can do, I sent them at least a mail telling what I am struggling with...

I'm always a bit slow to try betas, but think I'll have to with one. The pop up browser is one of my favourite parts of Bitwig, but this look to have taken something away.

My pop up browser workflow includes
-just typing in a plug in name
-filtering by type of FX, useful for finding i.e. routing tools
-filtering by developer
-simple to switch between lists synths or fx

And sometimes for picking a preset if a plug in works in that way.

I feel this new one may be a bit painful.
