My pop up browser workflow includes
-just typing in a plug in name
-filtering by type of FX, useful for finding i.e. routing tools
-filtering by developer
-simple to switch between lists synths or fx

And sometimes for picking a preset if a plug in works in that way.

I feel this new one may be a bit painful.
From what you describe here, you shouldn´t be afraid imho...
I think your workflow is exactly what they had in mind when designing this thing...

It get´s just painful if you i.e. like browsing plugins instead of just typing the name or if you want to see all plugins (native and VST/CLAP) in a normal alphabetical order (what they don´t offer... at least not out of the box...)... or when working with a list of collections...

Nonetheless as it installs seperately you should give it a shot as it behaves completely different to the original one ...

I do all of that stuff and find the new one excellent... I find the new popup browser is faster and is requiring less mental attention.

There is constructionwork going on on top of something i really rrrrreally liked before, so excuse my tad of nerves :)
I just hope the future is not just a nice wallpaper with a microphone and you just say, Bitwig, gimmi Polymer please and set the BPM to 144 while you are at it, Gevalia coffee please and take the DAW'g on a walk 13:37 for me. :)
Ohh, i need sleep i'm noticing *cought* ;)

Yes, definitely I will have to. If I want to give feedback I should try it.

This is great to hear. I will check it out today.

It's one of the things that I really like about Bitwig, so I feel a bit nervous about changes. Lol!

For me as well the new browser is so much better than the old one, much faster for me to use!

The new browser is more flexible, i like it more after i understand how it works. That's the key. Its different and requires some time to get into it.

And maybe some people don't know that there is "Add to quick sources" option?

Good to get all this positive feedback.

Seems I might not be able to d/l the beta without pulling the trigger on my (already paid) license renewal... hmmm. :?:

Yes, you need an active account to use the betas...

can someone explain to me what happened with the tag list?

I was using those. :dog: now there are two levels of tags? some clear explanation from bitwig of where they are going with the browser would really help me feel ok. for me they gutted one of my favorite features and i feel gutted as a result.

Upgraded to beta b5 I was told i had to start my index over as well. now i don't have of my smart collections. so that is awesome.

It looks like they took out the ability to customize smart collections all together. there were ways with the old browser to select multiple mismatching tags for a single collection which was useful. I was hoping for more things like that to actually be added and not removed for the sake of make it more simple.

You could always search in the old browser. I don't see how or why its much better in the new one. other than some speed things... it just looks like there is less stuff to use which you could have turned off previously.

Also would have loved to seen improvements in the API like being able to edit the search field and select multiple tags.

I feel vindicated by those talking about the same issues that I have and appreciate the conversation.

All your old smart collections should still be there...

Important question:

Can we add our own custom (I guess SVG format / Vector) icon for our custom collections on the left menu of the new Browser?

Or at least choose from a list of pre-made icons like from Twemoji (exhaustive open-source list of Emoji and Icons)?

And if not… Anyone’s interested?

I activated my extension so that I can check this out...

And my take... hmmm is it useable, yeah, but...
  • Whats with the big section for the icon...
  • I like to be able to see the type e.g. EQ and the Vendor list
  • It seemed to do quite a bit of context switching for me...
Maybe I'd get used to it - but - I do like the v4 wider format of this menu, where more of the filters are visible at the same time...

:? :?

edit: anyway I am happy now, I tried it, and sent support a nice emailing asking that we can see all the filters at the same time fo less context switching. Fingers crossed!

I migrated them over and that worked but they are no longer in bitwig 4.4. smart collections cannot be edited under the new browser scheme. anyways... would be stoked for a bitwig to reach out to a couple of us that are miffed by this and meet the needs of the users.
