OK, I'm convinced that I need the TD-3 MO. Now, the question is: yellow or silver? Does the yellow one sound more like mustard or pineapple? How about the silver one - does it sound more aluminum or platinum? Hmmmmm....

I don't have a lot of hardware.. I mostly produce in the box but i Have two synth : minilogue xD and Bass station II. I'm looking for a machine that will do drums and maybe sequenece the other synths... I was thinking Digitakt maybe ? Digitone and Syntakt also looks interesting thocryophonik wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2023 7:56 pmCongrats on the Adams!HOTF wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2023 7:43 pm ...might be looking for a drum machine or groovebox : Tr8s or elektron ... idk yet

I've never owned a TR-8S, but I have owned a TR-6S twice. If you want to sequence the other synths, the Elektrons are the way to go IMO. I've owned all three of the boxes you're considering, but recently sold the Digitone because it wasn't really getting much use. Choosing between the Digitakt and Syntakt would be tough. Both will get the job done, so it really comes down to whether you want a sample-based box (Digitakt) or analog/digital synth-based box (Syntakt). If you can stretch your budget a little further, a secondhand RYTM mk2 is the best of both worlds and probably not a lot more money than a Digi/Syntakt.
If you really want the 606/707/808/909 sounds of the TR-8S, the Digitakt (or RYTM) is probably the better option, since there is no shortage of decent samples for those sounds, and you can just load up the Digitakt with them. The Syntakt can get into that territory, but requires some sound design effort.

For sequencing other gear, *if it becomes a decision between Syntakt and Digitakt… The bottom row is already reserved for sequencing 8 channels of other gear, so you don’t have to feel guilty sacrificing one of Syntatk’s voices to control something else.
Right now I have Syntakt as the master clock, into Digitakt and finally into eurorack (Pam’s New Workout).
And same… I don’t have experience with TR8S. I’m going to sell off the TR6S as it’s one too many distractions.

I had a Model Cycles for a short period and it was pretty cool, but I sold it after buying the Syntakt and Digitone. It definitely sounds good as a standalone and has a streamlined workflow. I never tried sequencing external gear with it, so I can't comment on that and I've never used a Model Samples.

I have a TR-8S. It initially feels more hands on, but it has big limitations compared to the Elektron units. Firstly you only get one parameter lock per track which is really annoying and for me the biggest PITA is if you have a PC you can’t use the multi track USB Audio if you’re already using an ASIO USB Interface. Well you can use ASIO4ALL, which is rubbish. With the Elektrons you get Overbridge and the ability to bring in multi track audio as a plugin and you can even bring in 2 tracks of external audio and the latest firmware lets you use a compressor to sidechain. The 8 MIDI tracks are very handy too.

Good point about Overbridge. To my knowledge, the Model-series are still not supported by it, correct? That's a pretty big disadvantage if you plan to use it with a DAW.

Yeah AFAIK the only Elektron boxes that don’t support Overbridge are the two Models:*s units and the Octatrack.cryophonik wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2023 9:20 pm Good point about Overbridge. I still have model:samples but it’s another one I’m considering getting rid of, but I’ll wait a bit longer to decide.
No overbridge.
It’s very capable with an almost function per knob interaction.
You have more samples available per project than Digitakt, and it has velocity sensitive pads.
I also haven’t used it for sequencing other gear.
The down side is not having access to the new sample modes introduced in the 1.5 update to Digitakt.
Digitakt/Syntakt and I’m assuming the other boxes are all super fast to work with. Model:Samples is slower to interact with the menu, but again it’s still a capable box.
One reason I’m still holding on to model:samples is because it’s super light, portable and quiet to use.
I’m debating on taking the M:S, Digitakt or OP-Z with on my next trip. OP-Z is the most logical choice because it’s small with rechargeable battery built in, but Digitakt is so much more powerful that if it can fit, I’ll take it.
