I got the beta version of ACE with CLAP support (for Linux). I looked around for entry points where to patch a Bitwig modulator into the ACE and I'm surely missing something - wouldn't be the first time at all - as I didn't see any function or way to, say, modulate the ACE's first VCF frequency using a Bitwig modulator. How does it go ?

Maybe that's not a good example as that ACE frequency control can be directly modulated using the Bitwig device of the ACE. I presume CLAP allows for modulations that are not obviously available using a CLAP-compatible synth. So that excludes everything that's available from the Bitwig device of that CLAP synth.

Click on the parameter in ACE you want to modulate with a Bitwig modulator. Then in the ACE Bitwig device, (down on the device pane) you will see the parameter you clicked on at the top of the list. You activate the Bitwig modulator arrow and add the mod depth there, not on the ACE GUI.

Over in the Inspector, when the modulator is selected, you will see the option "per voice". Use that if you want it per voice. Note that not every parameter can be per voice. For example, the FX parameters in ACE are mono cause that is how the FX are in ACE. Most parameters can be per voice.

I see, thanks. Is it possible to introduce variations between the voices like the Voice Stack modulator can do ? For instance using Steps the ACE voices are shown as chords are played on the keyboard, but apart from a note's characteristics when played, is it possible to assign offset values to voices ?

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you are asking...

For instance, using the Voice Stack modulator with 3 monophonic voices to assign a slight filter cutoff modulation specific to each voice.

In other words, is the respective voice data being shared between Bitwig and CLAP plugins ? Surely not enough in 4.4.10 to be recognized when trying to assign a Voice Stack modulator to the ACE CLAP version.

Ahhh... Bitwig's voice stacking doesn't work with the u-he CLAP plugins. Bitwig's voice stacking does work with CLAP Surge though.

(yet)

(our bad - we hope to address this, but it requires some advanced remodelling of how we do some things, "NoteID"s and stuff, which also allows us to do new things in VST3 and AU then... and more detailed per-voice support of polyphonic parameter modulation in CLAP)

Is that the same work that needs to happen to get pitch expression working?

I just bought it for $21 using rewards points on PB. It's vastly underrated. I wonder what kind of filter it's supposed to be.

ACE' filters are based on ladder filters, not any particular specimen, just the general concept found in numerous papers, but with some exaggerated drive and ear tuned asymmetric non-linearities. Just something where I asked myself, how far can I go?

I too think it's underrated, it packs some nice features into a very approachable interface, at a very approachable price.

One reason ACE has always stood out to me is it sounds much more up front and present than just about anything. Speaker forward so to speak. It’s hard to describe it but it’s very noticeable in my monitors.

I know what you mean. I think of it as very tight and defined. Very focused.

With Zebra 3 just around the corner (which I'm planning on buying), I want to ask: Is there anything that ACE can do that Zebra 3 and the others can't or won't be able to do? I'm trying to avoid overlap, and I already have Diva and Repro and Hive2. I just can't imagine there being much need for ACE if I have Zebra 3, Diva, and Repro and Hive2.
