interesting. Ok, you had me checking my setup.
( i´m on a M2pro macMini / Ventura)

Ok, here is some confusion happening, but i found the cause:

VST3 does "here" NOT work correctly !
OrangeV reports *in all vocoder settings* a latency of 2048samples / 42mS.

Loading it as an AU things look completely different: slow modes report 1024 samples latency. Zero latency modes report 0 samples latency.

jfyi, and in sake of completness:
the realtime-play patch i run (in GP - my Host) was set to buffer: 128 samples.
Had to up it to 768 samples.
My guess is, that for realtime-play purposes, i would allways have to go up to 512samples or so, vs. OrangeV. A guess based on previous encounters with Zynaptic FX. Still, just a guess !
So, the reported zero latency is much likely just one number we deal with vs. "realtime-play uses". ( i personally do no other than that)

i run my host in ARM native mode

Yeah, I was running the AU version. Interesting. In any case, I am very happy with it. The latency doesn't bother me. I am probably not using this in a live setting, anyway, and if I sing and play the keyboard at the same time, the bad sound is not coming from the plug in, but me. :hihi:

i personally do not work with voice.
i use vocoders and the other "morph thingies" to run Synth against synth.
mostoften the same synthetic sound vs. a FX-ed derivate of same sound.
i like the Oranges soundengine for now on this. It is a match

its imho an overaged myth to think that vocoders are only useful for voice-work.
From there my need for "band-rearrangement" mode:
its a powerful toolset for beat making, drums vs. Synth.

vocoders are great for FX and weird drones, not only voice

I use it on drums and rhythms mostly, as vocoders produce these nice organic background noises that give them more depth and space. Vocals are just use case c or d.

hehe

i was not posting "against" you

but everybody thinks "everybody" would use a vocoder just for vocals ;)

One single iLok license??? That makes this a 100% no-go for me. :(

Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Fri Apr 28, 2023 2:59 pm Regarding the one activation thing, I reached out to Zynaptiq, and they basically explained:

1. An additional license [more on this in the next bullets] will be issued upon request [one activation by default]
2. That additional license is actually only good for a year from activation, but...
3. So you don't ever have down time, they'll actually issue you two expiring licenses [first add'l license expires, just activate #2]
4. You just contact them when you need a refresh, which they'll provide
5. The main activation doesn't require any jumping through hoops

So it's a little convoluted, and I suggested they reconsider and just issue 2 out the outset, but they're at least better than Izotope in this regard.
Thanks for this info!

Still 100% no-go for me. I don't want to jump through hoops and I absolutely do not want to carry my studio iLok around. It stays in the studio. Period.

So this makes it very inconvenient for using it at studio vs home.

This is probably why I don't own a single Zynaptiq plugin even though they are great and I've demoed most of them over the years. Ain't going to change until they stop being stupidly paranoid and start respecting paying customers like most other companies.

Let's take a vocoder that didn't sound good, just was better than most options in the tiny pool 25 years ago, and make it cost 200 bucks.

Well, I don‘t want to defend their pricing policy, as it‘s undeniably expensive compared to the market, but it sounds excellent (for example, outstanding intelligibility with the speech modeling algorithms) and gives you much more flexibility than other vocoders, as it‘s basically a collection of 20+ different vocoders - the algorithm switching really offers totally different models that sound and react different. Also, this is not the typical ‚retro‘ vocoder, but kind of a ‚re-imagined‘ vocoder, combined with pitch quantizing, a pretty good synth (esp. for pads), and an effects section.

The rest is typical Zynaptiq policy, pricing and style. But that was to be expected, I guess.

I hope there will be some kind of demo, so that the ones that are unhappy about the intro pricing and iLok limitations at least have the chance to test it and form their own opinion.

If I can't demo it, then I will probably not be able to find out if it adds anything beyond what Arturia Vocoder V can do. There aren't even any third-party (albeit probably paid off) reviews on Youtube, which one usually sees when a new VST comes out.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

btw. : thanks for that tipp !
Thats a really great and welcome feature.

one license only sucks ! ( might put this to every "Zynaptic post" from now on / sorry for that / but feel free to chime in, haha)
