A good draft for an addition to the BW manual :)

This is important.
yes compressor or saturator on the FX chain is a must to glue the shit together
A very good way to "glue the shit" :) is also to side chain one part of the pad with the other. Let's say you have a substractive pad mixed with some cracking field recorded sounds. Every time there is a crack, you sidechain to open the pad filter slightly, maybe with a delay or something. This way the 2 parts interact with each other.
Love that.
Good tip! You might also want to check out Spectral Dynamics, if not already. :phones:

The only problem with this is that now I want to buy Diva when I promised myself that Hive 2 was my last purchase of the semester...

As “martiu” often says:
Buy now! :hyper:

Diva CLAP is what keeps me going back to Bitwig over and over again.

Argh..... I will try to wait a bit for a sale but I will certainly give up before.
Sad because I have Obsession, the legend and B.I.T. 2 and I am satisfied with their "analog feel"....

I'll offer a different suggestion: it depends on what your goals are. For me, as the keyboardist in an actively gigging 60's-90's cover band, I need to nail certain signature sounds (the squarewave in ELP's Lucky Man solo, the clavinet for Stevie Wonder's Superstition, etc.). For this, I do not want lots of synths and endless preset scrolling. I want just a handful that I know well enough to quickly dial in the sound I want, and that I can quickly modify during a soundcheck to suit the particular venue. For me this is: Pianoteq for piano/EP/clav/wurli, Blue 3 for Hammond, NI Kontakt for all sampled sounds (trumpet, violin, flute, etc.), NI Massive for all "normal" synths, and U-He Zebra for any synth sound too out there for Massive. Figuring out how some new "best of everything" synth manages its mod matrices and envelope mapping isn't fun when you've got to nail 4 new sounds in a week for a wedding gig, and even with just the five I've listed there are well over 10,000 presets, each of which can be heavily modified making over a million possibilities - preset surfing isn't going to get me very far with deadlines. Further, the VSTi's that I use are from well known manufacturers that aren't going away soon, so if I create a set of sounds for Men Without Hat's Safety Dance now, I know in a couple of years it will work just fine, even if I have to update to a new laptop with a new OS that requires me to update VST versions (like I did from VST2 to VST3, or maybe CLAP soon).

But if I was just playing around with sounds for my own sake and didn't have the rest of the band who are relying on me to make things work in time for rehearsal, I definitely would buy a ton of them and play away to my heart's content! I'd get all of Tal's Roland emulations, all the vintage Korg emulations, all of U-He's stuff, FM8, ...

Those days are long gone.
Also, there is a certain scrap rate with any manufacturing. China simply makes so much stuff that the absolute amount of scrap seems relatively big, but the rate is no worse than with Western production.

There were times when there were no synths at all. And with many genres you still don't need any. Just saying...

I guess I only use any synths because I can't play the real instruments, and because I enjoy programming sounds, but I would definitely prefer a real string sound to a synth one. Or a real Music Man bass to a synth bass.

you can use samples for real sounds
