Waves already backtracking

If you hold out for a sale, I picked up the API for $60 or so I think? It happened to be on sale at the time when Waves announced the subscription stuff so I said what the hell and bought it. Started swapping out the SSL E on a couple projects and 'matching' the EQs right away and loved it.
While I was at it, I A/Bd the Brainworks SSL's next to the Waves as well (I have the BX E, G and J channels) and man the Waves BLEW it away. Set to the exact same settings, the Brainworx sounded very thin and 'hollow' compared to the Waves. Some of the comparisons were hard though, Waves has 10db more gain on tap then the Brainworx and I've got a lot of tracks that went 'all the way' with it.
Im trying NOT to buy the Model 84 right now. I have the Arturia and TAL Juno's but man that thing is killer and I miss those Juno pads..

Thanks for your further comments. Yeah, I remember Softube deals on channels recently.
Overall, I think Waves versions are good enough for the price, and they have also started updating HiDPI GUis for their best plugins, which is nice.
Model 84 is excellent indeed. You won't regret buying it, but you can wait for a sub $50 deal on it.

I wonder if they are going to continue to add many plugins to Mercury. I thought about getting WUP for it but it might be for practically nothing.noiseboyuk wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 2:31 pm The 25% WUP sale has returned, so that just leaves bundle updates as the only thing not restored. They've said it is coming but couldn't give a timeframe, I guess they'll just slot it in whenever it suits them in the sales schedules. It makes sense to do it after a WUP sale (not before) as they'd get more money overall that way - people will WUP who wouldn't if there was an upgrade sale.

I think they have been adding almost everything (like only one or two may not be added) they have released in the last couple of years to Mercury. Also, they are adding HiDPI GUIs for many of their popular/better plugins, so that's another advantage.ATS wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 5:00 amI wonder if they are going to continue to add many plugins to Mercury. V15 should be out sometime this year, it would make sense to WUP at 25% off based assuming the final price is enticing enough.
The absence of bundle upgrades is hurting, as upgrades often give better value.

I wish I could upgrade this bundle to something else but even when they offer it there is nothing I can upgrade to.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 4:49 amI think they have been adding almost everything (like only one or two may not be added) they have released in the last couple of years to Mercury. I thought you would have the option to upgrade to Mercury + Studio Classics Collection, at least before this subscription thing?ATS wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 5:14 amI wish I could upgrade this bundle to something else but even when they offer it there is nothing I can upgrade to.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 4:49 amI think they have been adding almost everything (like only one or two may not be added) they have released in the last couple of years to Mercury. I have Horizon and Studio Classics Collection bundles and I had the bundle upgrade option for Mercury + Studio Classics Collection. I hope it returns, but for now, I just went ahead with WUP of the plugins that matter while considering any significant fixes and HiDPI GUI enhancements. So, I may only upgrade now if the offer is really good and if V15 is out and essential for me.

I'd grab the CLA Comps if they updated to hi-dpi.
I have some other 1176s and LA2As, but the Waves versions are probably easier on the CPU and have a different character.

They already have HiDPI GUIs. Check the release notes at the link below for V12, V13 and V14 and you will get to know the plugins that currently have HiDPI.J Veronica wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 12:12 pm I'd grab the CLA Comps if they updated to hi-dpi.

I don't think this is a bad idea. They almost rugged all their customers a short while ago. I am glad they changed their mind but it is really hard to trust them now.anugget wrote: Sun May 14, 2023 12:01 am If I learned something from you here is to stay away from Waves. I started invrsting in UAD.

I wouldn't mind the UAD comps, but that's quite the investment!
I have the Softube versions so I should probably stop looking at shiny objects and get back to making music.
