Does anyone who uses Linux have the problem of Linux vsts and vst3s such as tracktions own collective and fem hanging on their system. I can try and open a vst or vst3 like collective or fem and it hangs waveform. Yet ironically if I leave it for 3 mins it will unfreeze and everything is fine.

Problems happen regardless of using alsa or Jack. Problens happen regardless of vst or vst3. Problems happen regardless of buffer size. Something seems to be causing waveform to freeze or hang in a loop.

Im running Ubuntu Studio 23.04. No idea what's doing it. Tried regular and low latency kernels etc and just problems.

Tried enabling and disabling sandboxes plugins does nothing at all

I spent quite some time last year trying to get a stable Linux experience but eventually went back to Windows. Don't want to put anyone off trying, but I found the whole Linux music workstation trip equally wonderful and frustrating!

Some things to consider:

Are you on Wayland or X11?
Do you have a graphics card installed - if so which?
Do you have Software or OpenGL rendering enabled in Waveform
Plus certain plugins are more compatible than others. I use u-He's as a benchmark.

You may also find running the Ubuntu LTS is more stable than the later versions, but not always the case.

Lots of moving parts in a Linux desktop which Waveform has to work alongside. Hope some of these ideas help.
Ryzen 5 8600G, 32GB DDR5, 4K, Ubuntu 26.04, Waveform Pro 13.5, Reaper 7, Ardour 9.

I've got a dual graphics card. Will try at work on break with way land and x11 and also with Intel and nvidia Graphics. As for software and opengl rendering I've tried both.

I've had similar problems on Ubuntu vanilla.

Also remember problems of playing a song and then it doing the same when trying to pause the song. I think this is a bug that hasn't been addressed.

Looking at waveforms site they state 18.04 as testing version - we are at 22.04 for lts now.

Personally I just wish Tracktion would shipa Linux version that has the same attention as mac and windows. A download manager that requires you to open zips ane copy and paste files around when it should be automated. Things like the visual plugin scanner still being broken but not fixed it's a bad thing to witness

Totally agree with lismore music on 10 things I hate about Waveform video. I do wonder why he promoted it if it crashed as many times as he says it does (frequent crashes). Personally I'm finding reaper way more stable but don't like the reaper work flow.

Yes if I were on Windows no issues right? No I don't wish to use Windows. I have no desire to run Microsoft products

Please, don't spread outdated information. That video is about pre-12 Waveform. Version 12 has got new audio engine. For me W12 is as stable as, at least, Reaper is. I use up to date Manjaro Linux (that is everything is new as opposed to old recommended Ubuntu).

Probably, the first thing everybody wants to do on Linux is to separate audiointerface from pulseaudiio/pipewire. Just set Off on Configuration tab of pavucontrol for your pro card and instead use Jack2 for it with Cadence (set both checkboxes on ALSA MIDI tab to get your MIDI keyboard visible with Waveform). And avoid OpenGL renderer in WF advanced settings.

Regardless Waveform, at any case, nvidia is the worse choice for Linux graphics these days.

I'm not aware I am spreading outdated information. I'm just citing a video source. I wasn't aware which version of Waveform the guy was using.

As for the problem it seems to be none of the above or things any of you have mentioned - when I am running a VPN Waveform seems to work fine now - the hangs are only for around 8-10 seconds with Collective and F'Em. I am guessing because I am connecting from Shenzhen just next door to Hong Kong it must be the Chinese firewall and possibly some form of copy protection which is calling home? It's a guess but if I turn my VPN off the plugin will hang for a couple of minutes to load. With a VPN on, it's only around 10 seconds which is not an issue.

As for saying I am spreading outdated information please don't be offensive. There are a lot of people on the facebook group complaining of hangs and crashes too. We are just users writing our experiences down.

Be sure, it wasn't my aim to be offensive. To my taste, I'm just direct as far as euphemisms don't help to resolve technical problems. So, I guess, everybody is responsible for the correctness of the information he distributes, which can be outdated as well as just false.

And what if you just turn your LAN interface down before activating Tracktion's VSTs?

Works fine when connected to a vpn server in Japan Europe or the usa. Disconnecting from the net it seems to work too but not using the Chinese net.

I am glad you were able to find and resolve the issue.

Something about Chinese internet that is causing certain applications to loop and crash. It's the same situation with a Heroes of Might and Magic style game Songs of Conquest on Steam. It's doing the same thing. Unsure why this is.

Sorry, but this is kind of mysticism that something in the network could crash your apps. As was suggested above, what if unplug your RJ-45 from PC (or better cut the wire with scissors for sure) and check?
