Why wait? You can actually do that right now.

You mean like... not using it? I'm actively doing it right now!!!! thanks for the help! Wouldn't know how to do it otherwise! :P

if you compare the GUI of Logic Pro for iPad to Garageband they both look very similar - Garageband for Mac looks more like Logic Pro fro Mac too, so I guess we won't see any big changes soon unfortunately

I wouldn’t want to let my Apple Pro lapse though

As for the original topic… it feels like a Chinese finger puzzle to me. For Logic to go v11 would mean Intel support is gone and the Mac Pro with an M series chip needs to come out. Based on current projections it could be another year for that to happen unless they reveal something no one’s expecting at WWDC next month. From there it would be new OS that ties iOS and MacOS closer or allows MacOS to run on IPad. Fall 2024

Post

Simple solution.. Apple keeps Logic Pro 10 actively supported for Intel Macs for a few more years... no new features, just security and future macOS compatibility. Logic Pro 11 will be free to move into the future with Apple Silicon for Macs & iPads... all AUv3.

Fall 2023!

Do you think we will see a merge of Logic for iPad and the desktop version (maybe in fall) ?
Now they seem like 2 total different products as they differ quite a lot in terms of GUI and also in terms of plugins/browser/ even plugin search

Yes. I think a strong change that this fall with the release of macOS 14 & iPadOS 17, there will be the release of Logic Pro 11. And this will further tighten how the different platforms can work together.

They are being merged into being the same platform, both programmatically and visually. I really don't care for it though, as the macOS GUI is a huge waste of screen real estate, especially in Logic. Mouse pointer =\= finger tip.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

A primary difference that will be maintained between Logic Pro on mac vs iPad will be their GUIs (to some extent). Mac optimized for trackpad/mouse & keyboard. iPad optimized for finger and pencil. But I think Apple will try to get layouts and visuals extremely similar within this consideration.

Hopefully they just keep doing free updates more as an enticement to get more people to buy Macs.

They'll just keep updating and moving the OS requirement goalpost, forcing users to either forgo news updates or buy a newer computer. As it stands, the current minimum is Monterey 12.3.

I think they've even dropped the X part of the name. It's just Logic and Final Cut Pro.
