Plugins can be good but still overrated. Most plugins can be used to make good music, we're spoilt for choice these days. Even the shittiest sounding plugins like msg dreamscape can still make interesting sounds. Shitty vsts are underratedmartiu wrote: Sun May 21, 2023 8:22 am Serum is not overrated, if you want very easy to program and capable wavetable synth Serum is the shit.

Indeed, Wiggle is one of the best examples here. Amazing sounding synth and well thought out GUI as well. I wish it was developed further.jeffb01 wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 5:30 am Wiggle is underrated. I have so many vsts and none are quite like wiggle. It does really cool stuff.

Most underrated: the plugins you, we, I already have.
Most overrated: any new plugin.
Most overrated: any new plugin.
It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

It really did. It's like walking into a dive bar in downtown Seattle and announcing to everyone in there that you are a real alcoholic. You've had over three beers.
Also, I would add that I really didn't mean this to sound disparaging. I really did think it was an adorable thing to read. Speaking as a real alcoholic.

I see your point but your analogy is wrong. It was not about myself but UAD. So the analogy is more like: a guy comes to a bar and says: "I drink regularly, and I never ever considered drinking this cat-piss".
Said differently, I spent about 10kUSD over the last 2 years, I know it is half or a quarter of what some people here spend in one single vintage hardware synth purchase but yet, that shows that I have spent a bit of time looking at the different plugins offer... UAD was never considered...

Ok I found a good one totally underrated. Nostromo spectral synthetiser. It goes inside the Reason Rack, it has a grey boring but functional UI, is very cheap.
All the "feel" claim cheap except when you play with it... The sound is just crazy, powerful, expressive.... Would be funny to make it compete against an Avemger or Zebra 3 in a blind test....

i tried DiscoDsp Vertigo today and it is great for sound design, very easy to make some weird sounding pads and stuff
i feel it is a bit underrated, yea the UI is a bit outdated and the price is not exactly low but it is very capable synth for sound designers
if you make sample packs and stuff check it out
