I Love Tracktion

I do. Can't help it. My perspective is skewed, perhaps, by the fact that until recently, I didn't even know what a VST plugin was (believe it or not, such people do exist). I didn't even know that you could use a computer to execute midi files via softsynths. And I sure as hell didn't know that you could get an assload of really cool synths FOR FREE just by going to google and entering "free vst plugins". I'm just a simple, middle aged composer who until a few months ago had never heard any of my music in anything like its proper form. I now have, for a total 86$ in software (80$ for Tracktion, 6$ dollars for an old copy of a dicontinued midi file editor called midisoft studio 6) a sonic arsenal beyond my former imaginings. So, like I say my perspective is skewed, but I just don't get WHAT PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT.

They just pretend to offer it. It is free! You don't even have to pay. Although the magazine itself is worth 5euro...Chickenpox wrote:i got tracktion 1.6 for nearly nothing (5Euro)!! it is included in the german magazine "keys 1/05"...
I love Tracktion, too. First I used Magix Music Maker, then energyXT and got finally stuck with Tracktion. It's nicely simple and I don't really miss features.

A little while ago this could have been a letter I was writing. Its good to look back and know that you have progressed so much quicker with tracktion than with most other software. I struggled in Cubase. Couldn't do what I wanted in Acid, Fruity Loops is fun but it was when I discovered Tracktion that things really started to take shape. I have met people with their £500 programs and their fancy this and that but at the end of the day Tracktion is at my level and to be honest it suprises them when I show them how much can be done quickly and sounding good.
And its all about enjoying what you do not reading manuals for an hour before you can work anything.
I am nearly 50 so age is no limit.
Hey! Maybe we should have a poll to find the oldest user.

Just to point out that Tracktion is by no means a beginners app.. I earn my living with Cubase, and feel I know it very well.. but I still prefer to use Tracktion when being creative at home..

Yeah, I came to Tracktion via Mastertracks Pro 6, Muzys and Cubasis; I get heaps more done now. A month or so ago I did two jobs for a friend who is doing her music degree; she got distinctions for both projects. One of the projects involed syncyng her music to a quicktime movie clip. I had to do this manually with both aps open but even that didn't slow down the job too much. I was rapt that Tracktion continued to record even when Quicktime was the foremost app! Video sync would be cool though.
Jules your doing a great job man! Keep up the good work

Hey Dave I'm 46 so it looks like I'm one of Tracktion's younger users

Maybe Tracktion should be advertised as the sequencer that old people can use,

I'm 45 myself, and let me tell you, you young folks have it easy! I remember having to record mono into an old Tascam 4-track while my Oberheim drum machine played over speakers, then switching cables and overlaying the drums without any MIDI time code because MIDI was too new! And the primitive instruments.. guitars, basses, even *gasp* monophonic synthesizers with wires! Those were the days..Dave Wiz wrote:Steve Prince wrote:Yeah, I came to Tracktion via Mastertracks Pro 6, Muzys and Cubasis; I get heaps more done now. You don't think it is already?Dave Wiz wrote: Maybe Tracktion should be advertised as the sequencer that old people can use,
To me it appears that Mackie see Tracktion as the tool of choice for 4-track refugees looking for something as simple and easy to use, and young aspiring electronic musicians who are looking for a cheap way into making music in their bedrooms.

I've got a bit of a hop to my step too,I brought a track to the studio where I work[all spoilled with expensive apps]done solely in Traction.
After all the rolling eyes were done,,most were fairly impressed,,the key to success in Traction is learning Mackie Final Mix

I hear you! Except... well... I just recorded the drums FIRST and played everything else over top...!woolyloach wrote:I remember having to record mono into an old Tascam 4-track while my Oberheim drum machine played over speakers, then switching cables and overlaying the drums without any MIDI time code because MIDI was too new! So that means I'm totally alien? (aged 17)Steve Prince wrote:Hey Dave I'm 46 so it looks like I'm one of Tracktion's younger users
Seriously, if you are student, you can't afford Cubase, Logic or Ableton Live. So you have to stick with something cheaper. But I can't complain at all
