MIDI would be the best low-bandwidth collaboration tool, for sure!
I'm a guitarist, though, so that counts me out. <grin>

for collabs:
using VSTs and transferring midi makes the archives small.
using audio and compressing it with lossy methods still provides an audible track for the other party to add to; when they return the archive to you you can use your original hi-quality audio files alongside anything they've added.
once an arrangement has been decided upon, the hi-quality files from all concerned can be gathered up by the final mixmaster and assembled into the 'prop-er' one.
count me in too, i'm always up for a collab. i'm up for melodic stuff, with all manner of sounds in, as long as it's not afraid to be just a bit silly

I would, of course, only good can come out of this; but somebody more talented than me would probably be better, just in case nobody else shows up, drop me a pm. I would like to have the raw drum track one way or another as my drums skill totally suck and I would love to see what I could come up with using properly prepared percussion track; You think this would be possible?AlanB wrote:How's about this for a daft Christmas idea to get us started?
What if we tried to make a piece of music with four or five instruments, all using the same free VST? Call it the Tracktion Christmas Challenge if you like.
For example, I created 8 bars of music with 4 tracks, each using a separate instrument in Plugsound Free. The trkarch file size was 22kb. So it might be fun to see if we could create 32 bars of music together (approx 176Kb?). I know there is a limitation on the type of instruments you can choose, but that's part of the fun.
I'll volunteer as drummer, and I would be looking for others to create (say) bass, pad, and lead.
Anyone interested?

As far as instruments goes I only know My CS2X and Wusikstation as I have choosen to learn a few instruments very well instead of having a HD full of instruments I know nothing about, but once in the audio domain it doesn't make a difference no?
