Forgive me, I'm new to midi stuff. So I created a drum track using Micro Drum Sampler, and it played back just fine. However, after I closed and then reopened TW, the track is now silent. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help! Here is what I see:

Have you checked that there is actually a drumkit chosen in the Micro drum sampler, iirc there was an issue that sometimes it could default to an empty kit.

Yes confirmed, just tested this and that is exactly what is happening, something must have broken this again, I'll let the developers know.

You saved me! Thank you!! All I needed to do was click on the Drum Sampler plugin, so that it's window opened. With the window open, the track played back audibly! After opening the control window, I could then close it, and the track still played back ok.mikoatkvr wrote: Fri Jun 23, 2023 9:23 pm Have you checked that there is actually a drumkit chosen in the Micro drum sampler, iirc there was an issue that sometimes it could default to an empty kit.
BTW, is it necessary (or advisable) to "Render Clip" (to make a wav file track)?

No problem, there is definitely an issue with the micro drum sampler, but all other samplers are loading fine after a restart.
Yes , right now you are working in the MIDI realm, so you are correct in saying that you will have to 'Render Clip' to obtain an Audio file ( .wav in your case )
//edit// It is not necessary to bounce an Audio file, but if you are working on a large project with lots of plugins, CPU may start to suffer. You can also 'freeze' tracks , which basicall leaves the MIDI and plugins intact, but renders a temporary .wav file in place, so you can go back in later , make some changes by unfreezing the track/s and freeze again if needed.

I think this is a problem with the presets that come with Micro Drum Sampler. For one thing, they're set to ADSR so they sound terrible, but they also go silent when the Edit is re-loaded.
These issues don't exist for any preset that you create yourself. I usually recommend that people create their own or re-create the factory presets using the same samples.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

I have reported a bug, I notice that the drumkits name is showing the * symbol, which normally means that you have made some type of changes to you kit, there is definitely something funky going on with this particular plugin .
Yeah I agree , especially the micro drum sampler needs some love by the developers.

If you're working in midi, or just with synths in general, it's quite a good idea to capture some audio whenever you have something good going on. Otherwise a plugin crash or some clumsy adjustments can whisk your nice sound away never to be recreated again. Treat your whole Daw like a modular synth. Hours and hours of tweaking to get a sound that might only ever exist until the next time you touch something.
