Devious Machines release Multiband X6

It was crunch, quickest attack, quickest release(neither of these sound like what the knobs says they are either)gain reduction pinned at the bottom of the range, maximum compression without engaging the high button, crossovers same as the default preset, linking 100%, lookahead 10ms

Even with less gain reduction it still sounds strange and not useful when i put it against Pro-MB or Multiplicity with the same amount of lookahead and regardless of what i do with the settings in either

I think what i am hearing is your lookahead is just a delay, because i could mimick the same sound with Compassion when i use long lookaheads without the FIR smoothing and hold, and get what i would expect from a lookahead by adding both back in with the delay

Ok - we are looking into it. I think you are spot on and we should sort that out.

what's goin on with the lookahead? If i set it to 10ms it's letting through more attack?? That doesn't make sense. I compared it with Pro-MB just to make sure i wasn't misremembering what long lookaheads sound like and it sounded how i remembered in my head it sounds

Is this just a delay on the input that goes to the sidechain? Cause that's what it sounds like. I thought that there was a hold that was necessary to make lookahead function the way it does like in Fabfilter's dynamics stuff

We think there was definitely a problem with hold when the lookahead was set to 20ms. I'm surprised about the 10ms though?

If you have time and energy to look at this can you see if v1.0.29 which is now in the beta section of our site (https://deviousmachines.com/multibandx6-downloads/) solves the problem for you.

If not I'd love a simple test session/instructions to reproduce the problem and we will get it sorted.

In your other post you describe some setup steps but what audio are using to test it?

It was a drumloop with an 808 kick in the mix. When i set the lookahead to 10ms it sounded like there were bits of the kick slipping through even moreso than having no lookahead at all

I'll check that build over the weekend and get back to you

A multiband compressor is a plugin usually destined for mastering. Why would you interrupt that critical listening process with a blast of white noise?

The demo white noise doesn't need to be loud to be effective. Why is that so hard for developers to understand?

Raddler - Sorry - I agree - a mistake on my part I'll get that tweaked

(I've been using it more on individual tracks than on the master bus so it hadn't jumped out as such a problem).

There's quite a lot going on to minimise distortion and make it musically useful. And the exact effect will vary between modes as well, and with input signal level and so on.

I'll give it the once over with a sonic screwdriver and oscilloscope next week though in case there's anything worth tightening up at the extremely fast end of the settings range... without breaking anything.
